I'm not a fan of Gotham anyway. The tone is very inconsistent. It tries to be a serious cop drama, but then there are moments that totally feel like Batman & Robin. Also The Joker has no official origin in the comics, so that's what they are doing with Jerome. Having the Joker's presence in the show, but keeping him vague at the same time. The Dark Knight did something similar as well by having The Joker lie about his origins.

That's totally misleading. What it refers to is tickets sold "at this time" -- meaning 16 days before release in North America.
As we all know BP was a steady build up for the last month before release. Estimates continued to climb and climb until opening day. That means ticket pre-sales may have surged the last few days before the movie opened. It's not how soon the tickets sell but how many actually sell. Not saying that these high pre-sale numbers are bad -- they are not, they are great. But it doesn't translate into twice the presales of BP = twice the opening weekend. Also remember that many weekend showings are sold out and some of the pre-sales are for later and later dates. That won't help the opening weekend numbers either. Do I expect the opening weekend to beat BP? Yes, it better. Do I expect it to be double? Hell no. Do I wish it was? Hell yes. |

It has a huge chance at beating Furious 8's worldwide opening weekend. I can definitely see it making over $600 million globally.

I understand much of the reason for Black Panther’s huge success was that it was the first major black Superhero movie. That is something to get excited about but why would Infinity War be TWICE the hype? Black Panther attracted not just Marvel fans but people that never saw a Superhero movie before. I know Infinity War is a big deal to Marvel fans but outside that why would it attract others to see it?

Just noticed if adjusted for inflation The Avengers (2012) grossed $705 million domestically (total) which is more than Black Panther’s current $665 million (total) so I guess it’s possible it outgrosses Black Panther despite the non-Superhero movie fans seeing Black Panther. I am guessing the Marvel fans will return to see Infinity War multiple times causing it to outgross Black Panther. There I just answered my own question from above as far as total gross goes. I guess you can see a film more than once upon opening weekend too.

Many reasons. People pre-ordering tickets for more than one showing this weekend is widely being reported. People possibly convincing friends/family to join them for the "cinematic event", people simply buying the tickets EARLIER as I stated a few posts back, people who usually wait till the crowds are smaller actually wanting to see it in a packed theater, people who usually work weekends taking off work to see it on the weekend....
I'm sure there are other reasons advance tickets are selling faster that I can't think of. Including people who thought BP wouldn't be be very good and holding out until later or not seeing BP at all ![]() |

EDIT: second trailer looking weird as hell too. Everything seems sped-up and the CGI was looking strange in certain spots. |

I see what you mean about Chris Evans as Cap in the first trailer above. I think it's possibly because of his beard.
