It was better than Ultron, but I disagree about Civil War. I think this was 2nd tier MCU. Not as great as Iron Man, The Winter Soldier, Civil War, or The Avengers, but right below those.

I found civil war to be terrible. They barely fought about the actual idea with signing that thing, like the movie was afraid to get into it much

Well that and
[Show spoiler]the fact that all of the remaining Guardians of the Galaxy except for Rocket disappeared, and it's already been announced that there will be a 3rd Guardians movie down the road. There's no way they are going to kill ALL of them off permanently.

I rate these films mainly on how enjoyable they are, and my God was this ever enjoyable. I was concerned that it could be a bloated mess, and I thought the Russos couldn't top Thor: Ragnarok for sheer fun, but if they didn't, they came damn close. I think I still enjoy some of the characters in the best standalone films more, but for an Avengers film, Infinity War is an incredible achievement, and far and away the best of the three films thus far. I really don't know how the Russos wrangled this film together, juggling so many characters (as well as a bevy of high-profile actors) and threading them through a simple but effective plot that recalls fantasy and adventure films of yesteryear, while also piling on the action.

Just like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, perhaps 98% of the film is at least partially visual effects, but unlike that juvenile, silly sequel, Infinity War rarely, if ever, feels like it's trying too hard, or grasping for meaning. Josh Brolin, playing a villain via CGI, nonetheless gives an excellent performance, and the effects artists do it justice. This must be one of the most expensive films ever made, and you can certainly see that in every frame, and in the bevy of action sequences, which are some of the best of the digital era. It's fairly stunning how much action there is, and the film really feels relentless, but it's also somehow able to find time for character beats and even some character development.

This is truly a blockbuster the way Steven Spielberg used to make them, and my only real concern is that the next part may struggle to meet expectations, although hopefully, given that it's a back-to-back shoot, the second half is simply more of the same and a thrilling conclusion to the story.

I hope we see some Oscars for this one next year, and besides the technical categories, I might actually hope for a Best Picture nomination if there are still going to be nine or ten nominations, but it's early days yet.

I hope it does really well, because frankly, Marvel deserves to break the box office with this one.

Just bought tickets for a 10am Dolby ATMOS screening on Saturday.

...i'm actually low-key excited to see this. Never thought I would feel that way for main story MCU film.

First off, shout out to the f*cking a$$hole couple sitting beside me who felt the need to talk and cuddle throughout the whole movie.

Anyways, getting the nitpicks out of the way:

Absolutely none of the humor worked for me, aside from
[Show spoiler]Tony telling the others they're invited to the wedding before flying off.
It made the film tonally inconsistent at times.

The CGI was awful. Every shot with Tony, Peter and
[Show spoiler]Bruce in the Hulkbuster suit
was terrible when their masks were off. Thanos on the other hand looked great throughout.

Silvestri's music didn't work for me. There needed to be more somber, bone chilling music that really drove home the direness of the situation.

Pros:

For the first time in a long time, I felt scared for the characters. The stakes were REAL. You could FEEL how hopeless they were.

Thanos was great. His motives were simple and well explained. I understood what he wanted and why. His relationship with
[Show spoiler]Gamora was well portrayed though I hoped we could have seen more between the two.
I'd say he's up there with the Vulture as one of the strongest villains of the MCU.

Loved most of the fight scenes, especially between Thanos and
[Show spoiler]the Avengers on Titan.

8/10 For the first time in a long time I'm actually looking forward to an MCU film. Hoping Marvel can continue with more films like this and less of their previous uninspired efforts.

Oh and the post-credits scene:
[Show spoiler]Captain Marvel!

Oh and
[Show spoiler]that Red Skull cameo was dope.

Saw this yesterday.
Glad most people enjoyed this - and can feel the passion in other folks descriptions of what they experienced - but I feel in the minority here when I say that I didn't think it was all that great.
I did enjoy it, but I was not blown away.

[Show spoiler]

It also felt messy and unfinished or edited in parts. For instance, the Hulk is seen in the trailers in the assault on Wakanda, but not in the film. Also, why did the Hulk just show up at the point he did at the beginning? After the survivors of Asgard had all been slaughtered already? And Jeremy Renner also filmed scenes in Edinburgh last year, but he was no where to be seen in the end.
I would of liked to have seen Thanos get that first Stone.
I was also getting very bored of both Iron Man's and Spiderman's suit abilities which seemed to do literally everything.
Also, the FX surpirsingly looked iffy in bits.
And - all those characters that turning to dust does not feel so final to me, especially as sequels to Spiderman, Black Panther and GOTG have already been announced. May have been better if these other movies hadn't of been announced at this point, it would have made more of an impact.

But don't get me wrong, I'm pleased people are loving it, and feel a strange sort of jealousy at their love and hype of it and only wished I was blown away by it myself. I hope it keeps the MSU wheels turning which I'm sure it will. I did enjoy it to a point though, and will be watching it again at the flicks and have already ordered it on BD steelie, but it isn't the best MCU movie to me.

At my early morning screening the cinema was only 20% full...but it's one the best atmospheres I've experienced at a movie theatre. It was electric. Everyone was into it.

First Marvel movie I've been too since Iron Man where no one clapped at the end. The entire 8pm show was sold out and we all sat there in stunned silence.

I did get the room to applaud loudly when
[Show spoiler]Thor landed with Stormbringer and Rocket & Groot
. Ten years of films have led to this event which is going to be hard to recover from without
[Show spoiler]cheating the audience with Doctor Strange's magic or some other retconning

We know who has movies upcoming but Guardians Volume 2 takes place in 2012. Since time moves differently in Sakaar, we also don't know when exactly Thor Ragnarok took place or how long. We just know Bruce Banner shows up after the Sokovia Accord is ratified. So we can't really use the upcoming stand alone movies to determine how Avengers 4 will play out or even to
[Show spoiler]provide comforting thoughts that the ones we lost are not really gone
.

I think they made a grave error changing all the advertising/naming to Infinity War NOT Infinity War Part 1 (as it showed originally) and then getting the IMDb to have the next avengers movie as 'as yet untitled'... I think it could backfire as people will agree with you (and the word *will* get out that it really is half a very long film) - if this happens I can see Jurassic World beating it out as people will rewatch that one but not this (at least until next May before IW:2 is coming out).

Each to their own, but absoluetly all the humour worked for me... and judging by the amout people in my screening that were honest to goodness laughing out loud (along with me) I'd say, in this case, you would be in the minority.

BTW... I was going to look up what the post credits sequence ending referred to so your knowledge is obviously wider than mine and I no longer need to go searching, much appreciated!
