Personally, I don't care for Andrew Garfield's depiction of the character, or the movies themselves. He's a fine actor but those movies are just... bad. His performance as Spider-Man is okay, but he just doesn't sell the character of Peter Parker for me.

I think if you look at it more as a modern interpretation of an outcast, rather than Tobey's outdated dweeb stereotype, it works pretty well. To me, Garfield feels like what an actual unpopular person experiences. Especially someone who is crippled by social awkwardness to the degree that they have no friends. Maguire feels more like what the popular kids think the unpopular kids are like. It just feels like a ridiculous stereotype I can't take seriously.

Holland is kind of a different take altogether. He has some social awkwardness, but it doesn't cripple him, and the cool kids don't seem too cool to associate themselves with Pete either. They make fun of him, but I don't really get a sense of why, since they all pretty much hang out in the same circles.

So basically Tobey was a bad caricature, Garfield felt more real (and did a great job performing that role), and I'm not quite sure what to make of Holland's characterization of Peter, but he's fine for what he's doing, it's just not what I prefer.

Tobey was better than Garfield... and his first two movies were easily better than the first (and only) two movies Garfield was in. Facts.

Tobey had decent stories, but they were poorly executed, especially in acting and dialogue, where I think Garfield far surpassed Tobey in feeling more like a real person. Tobey was too cheesy and an unrealistic caricature. The dialogue was bad, Mary Jane was poorly done, there was no chemistry between the two, and Tobey couldn't do Spidey justice either, feeling too cringy whenever he tried to be funny or cool. The ASM movies fixed all of those issues imo.

I will always enjoy rewatching the Raimi/Maguire movies, for nostalgia reasons at least, but there's a lot wrong with them I can't ignore after seeing the newer movies.

Not that my opinion matters much as I don’t really care all that much about the Spiderman character, but...

MacGuire was the better SPIDERMAN.
Garfield was the better PETER PARKER.
Holland is the best of BOTH! A near perfect balance... in my humble opinion.

Weird, people usually say Garfield is the better spider-man and Maguire was the better Parker. Personally I think Garfield did both better, but I at least understand where they're coming from.

Personally I'd say Garfield is the best Spider-man and Holland is the best Parker, although I still personally prefer Garfield's parker for the better acting and his scenes with Gwen. I don't think Maguire did great at either, but he had better stories to work with (although worse dialogue) and he was good at the time before we had better to compare it to.

^ YES!

I think Garfield was the best fit for the character, I loved him as Spiderman and as Peter Parker. The 2nd movie was absolutely trash though. Im not really feeling Holland as either though, I havent read the comics, so dont know how Spiderman/Parker is supposed to act like but I preferred The Amazing Spiderman over all the other Spiderman movies, with regards to acting, story, the villain, everything

I like Garfield, Stone and Webb but they got screwed by studio meddling and shitty writing.

Raimi and Tobey still reign supreme in the Spider-Man department IMO.

eurgh this ridiculous debate yet again.

lets move on shall we. Why does it matter how crap or great the previous spidermen were now?
Tom is doing a fantastic job of both sides of the character and finally its in safe hands. Lets just enjoy this going forward.

People still talking about the original movies....goodness me.

Maybe we should all bring up the Fantastic 4 movie in the 90s and its casting?.
Or what about the old as hell Captain America?

Because people like sharing their opinions and this is a discussion forum?

My heart will always be with the Raimi films but Holland’s movie was good and he clicks with the rest of team.

Now we're talking, Chris Evans does a great job, but he's no Reb Brown.

Finally seen it. I was both verypleased and slightly disappointed. For the most part, this just felt like another filler episode. It's just superheroes traveling from one point to another, meeting randomly and talking a lot, about nothing, for 3/4 of the movie. At it's core, it just feels like not much was going on, despite the fact a lot was going on. A lot of the action was great, though. And this set-up is announcing something that could be really great.

As for the ending:
[Show spoiler]It had zero emotional impact on me, because of the fact you just know they aren't dead and it will be solved by the person we all predicted.

Tom Holland sucks. He's like this typical american cool teen, he is annoying. I dislike his Spider-man with passion. At least Tobey's Peter looked like a real loser. There's also zero development about this new Spider-man, his real motivations and why would he sacrifice himself to save the universe. I'm Spider-Man. I'm so cool. Iron Man is my friend. I must risk my life and die to save the universe because i met the Avengers like 3 days ago and even when i'm fighting the most dangerous villain in the world i will say the dumbest s*** because i'm young so i can't be serious. i'm the coolest!

And that's one of the biggest mistakes of the MCU. If Peter was mature, had a difficult backstory, struggles and he was out there risking his life i would understand why Stark would bring him into the Avengers world (when we know there's real danger like Ultron, who killed Quiksilver), i mean, Stark would help these young adult to control his anger issues, or try to protect him. But the MCU version of Peter he's young, naive, funny, hardly emotional, hardly suffering. Why in the world would Stark recruit a teen and provides him tech knowing he could die in battle?
