seeing as the 3D-releases will most likely get the opened ratio, it's not that far fetched... not unlike some mythical cut from another movie of a competitive IP ...

My point is they're already making the discs. They would have to significantly delay them to change them now.

disney US re-printed and re-shipped The Little Mermaid due to a single shot error, a few years back.... they could do the same here and ship out the 'corrected' discs after release

This isn't an error though. The movie was released outside of IMAX and was seen by most moviegoers in this format. It isn't unintentional.

Lol their team up couldn't even gross close to half of any Avengers movie. I wouldn't call them competition at this point.

I informed my YouTube subscribers about the petition for the home-video releases to be presented in the original, IMAX aspect ratio of the film. So, hopefully, a lot more people sign it. Check out my post here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmA...XoIQ/community

Here's the 2nd trailer of the movie in 4K with the IMAX aspect ratio, by the way.

You being UK based are lucky Disney still produces 3D discs internationally. That stopped in the US.

Why? Is it because sales in the U.S. were too low for the format? Also, why are 3D discs only 1080p? Why not 4K as well?

Ang Lee managed 4K 3D for Billy Lynn but I never read much into how that happened. As for why 3D in the US died -- sales were low, it's that simple. If people were still buying 3D then the studios would still be selling it. Makes no sense to turn off a revenue stream unless that stream isn't turning much (or any) profit. The conspiracy theories about studios wanting to push 4K over 3D are laughable.

Billy Lynn's was only shown in 4K120 3D in literally two or three cinemas across the whole of the US, needing a very high end double stack of Christie projectors to make it happen (they edited the movie at 60fps too, they couldn't run 120 natively in the edit bay) along with a special sauce DCP, because the DCI spec as it stands simply doesn't permit 3D in 4K. Certain projectors can handle it but it's not been ratified as part of the wider DCI standards. Ditto for 4K disc, it's just not part of the spec at this time.

The 2K60 3D release version was summarily cancelled after test packages were sent out and many 3D cinemas - even those already geared up for 2K48 3D with the Hobbitses - choked on the 60fps test DCPs, but it was too late to create an alternate 3D version @ 24/48fps (all sub-120 versions were created by special frame blending techniques) so after all that it just got a plain jane 2K24 2D DCP for regular release!

But Billy Lynn's is NOT in 4K 3D on the UHD Blu-ray, it's presented in 4K60 2D.

Speaking of HFR 3D, it's gonna be interesting to see what happens with the new Avatars, whether Jimbo can get them to upgrade their servers and whatnot (presuming he shoots in 60p, he's mentioned previously about it making more sense to 'plug in' to 48fps for theatrical exhibition as it's a proven system).

Shooting 48fps for theaters makes sense but then we can't get it at home, a la The Hobbits (which is a shame, the HFR 3D was stunning on #3). I guess\ it makes more sense to pick the one that works best for theaters. HFR versions will become like IMAX ARs that we don't get on disc, gone with the wind like tears in the rain and all that.

Of course, if he really is doing 48fps 3D, that isn't really breaking any new ground. Very un-Jim like.

Oh I know am lucky.
Asian retailers and many premium steelbook sellers do 3D/2D sets so I find it weird 3D isn’t sold in the US anymore.
It wasn’t long back i was forced to import The Little Mermaid from America as it was the first(and only?) Disney 3D blu-ray that wasn’t available in UK.

Would 3D 4K fit on a disc?

Titanic was split over two discs for 3D due to its length....

It was pretty smart move for the Russo's sidelining each of the strongest Avengers in the first act:

1. Thor gets his ass handed to him by Thanos + Black Order.
2. Hulk gets his ass handed to him by MMA Thanos.
3. Doctor Strange is incapacitated by Ebony Maw.
4. Vision is incapacitated by Corvus Glaive and can't fully phase.

Something MCU understands by depowering their hero's and creating some stakes even if for a single film. It works.

4K24 3D would fit just fine for the average 2-hr movie if it were frame-packed with an MVC-type codec (which encodes one full eye and stores the other as the difference data), but higher frame rates would be a no-go. Not part of the UHD Blu spec in any way, shape or form mind you.

And yet Black Widow was able to take down Proxima Midnight with such ease as she did her Russian goons from the beginning of Avengers
