Spider-Man:Homecoming is said to be a high-school comedy but the major difference is that his powers are not deliberately stupid. Can you imagine having a film where Squirrel Girl defeats Thanos with a pack of squirrels?

No, a dark/gritty MCU would be awful. But I believe there's a limit to what's believable and what's too daft to be taken with a degree of seriousness. I can take Groot and Rocket Racoon seriously because a big gun and tree trunks are credibly powerful whereas there's no credibility about Squirrel Girl's powers.

Perhaps Squirrel Girl would work as a kids' Saturday morning cartoon but I'm not convinced at all a live-action film would be any good.

Funny how Dalek bends over backwards trying to justify AoS characters in the MCU, but Squirrel Girl is an automatic no-no.

She doesn't have to be fighting Thanos. But a Squirrel Girl film where she's taking on street thugs with her power? Yes. Again, if you attempt to handle it in a self aware and comical way, much like Ant-Man did, it would work just fine. You haven't seen Ant-Man, but the movie lovingly pokes fun at the ridiculousness of the powers and the his name, but still treats them seriously. If you balance it, it can work.

I've got news for you too...This Squirrel Girl talk is gaining serious traction, and Kendrick has actually met with Marvel recently over the role. So, if anything comes of it, get ready for Squirrel Girl in the MCU, because Marvel is seriously considering it.

In that case, you may as well just introduce her on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Street thugs are too small a threat for the big screen.

Will you twist anything to make yourself seem right? Guess who else fights street thugs, Dalek? Spider-Man. Of course she'd have a villain, but there's always the minions that you fight along the way. But leave it to you to overlook everything else I've said to try and shift your goal posts...

I take it you weren't one of the ones who wanted a solo Black Widow film.

Not sure what you mean by this exactly.

Avengers 3 (Infinity War) will be final to all three phases they've built up but the following year will be Avengers 4 which will continue things for some of the characters. We haven't been given all the details on Marvel's plans.

Spider-Man has Vulture, Green Goblin, Venom, Doctor Octopus, Carnage, Kraven the Hunter, Kingpin, Sandman etc... though. I have no idea who Squirrel Girl has in comparison. And you never mentioned a main villain in your post before, just that they could do a film about Squirrel Girl fighting street thugs (which is more Marvel television territory, specifically Netflix but I can't exactly picture a dark/gritty TV series about a girl who can communicate with squirrels).

I shouldn't have to mention a main villain considering every superhero movie ever has a main villain...Obviously it's implied. Just because you don't like Squirrel Girl doesn't make it off limits to Marvel. Something you've still yet to come to terms with.

So, a comedic and fun Squirrel Girl film in the MCU is something I hope happens. I'm glad that talks have actually begun to see if it could actually happen. With Kendrick wanting it, and a few higher ups in the company wanting it, and now the Russo Bros. championing it, there's a good chance something comes from it. As it should. There's a lot of fun to be had with it.

It's not that I don't like Squirrel Girl, it's just that as a concept I believe it is very limiting in terms of what a film could offer. I can picture it more as a TV superhero sitcom than I can a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster.

The only limit is your imagination in this situation. You've got to start broadening your horizons more. It doesn't have to be like any other superhero film, because she's not like any other superhero. That's the point. It would be fresh, and different, and could show a side of the MCU we haven't seen.

Sorry but a character like Hans Gruber isn't far off from a street thug in the world of comic books.

In the world of comic books there are street thug leaders like a Hans Gruber type and there are super villains. The ones with powers or tech that actually need someone with superpowers to take down.

Squirrel Girl can be just as much of a hero or ass kicker as Black Widow. To be honest she would make a far more interesting film than Black Widow could.

Hans Gruber is a terrorist, hardly a street thug. In MCU terms I would say he's closer to Grant Ward.

You've demonstrated a surprisingly limited imagination, so just because you can't personally picture something doesn't make that gospel.

I don't agree. Coulson is dead as far as a lot of people are concerned, so throwing him back into the movies without setting up his return would just seem weird. Not everyone watches the TV show, or cares about it that much, so they would need to give an explanation for his existence within the movies for both The Avengers characters that believe he's dead and the moviegoing audience who don't follow the show. I say keep him out of the movies and if the series is still on TV by the time Infinity War happens, just have them address what's going on from their point of view on their own show. The Russos have enough characters to juggle with this movie.

As I said, it can be done with little explanation in three lines. Nick Fury died also; you don't see people complaining that he is still alive.

Nick Fury died and came back within the same movie. The audience saw this. As far as a lot of people are concerned, Coulson is still dead. Not everyone watches the show or should feel forced to in order to understand the movies. Having him come back to the movies would just be gratuitous fan-service for those who do watch the show.

You don't need to have seen Coulson's resurrection via project TAHITI though. I don't think the audience would even need to know how he was brought back to life, just that he's alive now.

And him being alive now would be confusing as hell (to anyone who didn't watch the show) unless they actually explain it in the movie, but that kind of necessary exposition could end up impeding on more important things that need to be focused on within the movie... and I expect there's going to be enough shit in this film to worry about as it is. Sorry, I just don't feel Coulson needs to be in the movie. But if they do it, and it works, then whatever.
