Zing! Being such a Sony baloney fan, I’m actually shocked that you don’t yet have the A90J.

I have a Vizio V-Series TV at the moment, which I doubt is anywhere near top-of-the-line. Die Hard didn't seem dark at all to me.

Jimbo is still smoking crack, both Alien & Die Hard look fantastic on a properly setup OLED or high end LED!

Guess I don't qualify then, unless we're talking about the crack that has hair around it?

Sorry for digging out a several years old post but caps-a-holic just updated their listing for the first film and hoo boy, this couldn't be further from the case:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...7&l=0&i=0&go=1

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...2&l=0&i=3&go=1

The Lionsgate encoding is a ****ing dumpster fire compared to the StudioCanal disc.

Though during more difficult moments things actually reverse and the Lionsgate is superior:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...5&l=0&i=4&go=1

I hope this hasn't already been brought up in this thread in the time since but it doesn't appear to be the case.

Sony baloney? Sony even made the best sets in the CRT days.

Neither are great. In your second screenshot, luminance noise on the Lionsgate is replaced by chroma noise on the SC.

Cheers Eddie. The discs were still done by StudioCanal for Lionsgate but yeah, that ain't no shared video encode despite having a verr similar average bitrate.

But as said above on that third example you're just trading one set of artefacts for another, the 'blown' colour on the Lionsgate is nasty. Prefer the SC there!

In any case, it looks like we've got some decent English-friendly encodes for these flicks after all, what with the concerns about the Italian versions of 2 and 3 lacking the subtitles for the foreign dialogue bits. Well, assuming that the European SC UHDs of 2 and 3 show as much improvement as this does! Wow.

Although from just a very quick look at the caps maybe it really is a case of six of one and half a dozen of the other, because the SC disc really *is* tragically bad in other spots e.g. https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...83514&i=17&l=0

Geoff,

4Kult/Eagle Pictures 4K is up for comparison on capsaholic.

What do you think of it versus the Lionsgate US release?

Thanks

No need to be Geoff, all due respect, to answer that - Eagle is superior.

Does anyone with these Eagle transfers know if they have the missing gun shots? I'm guessing they don't as they still use the Studio Canal restoration. I feel like I'm the only one who picked up on the missing gun shots, as no one seems to bring them up (if someone has, I apologize). The automatic dirt removal process wrongly perceived them as dirt and deleted them ; for example, the scene in First Blood where Rambo is chased into the cave by the National Guard, gunfire has been taken out, even though you can still see a reflection of the flash on a nearby tree (which to be fair, highlights just how good most of the transfer is in general).

It's a bit more noticeable in Rambo II, where deleted gunfire from the Russian troops during the helicopter attack (on the POW camp) scene, makes the troops look even more incompetent than ever, due to not taking cover, firing there guns at a helicopter that's out of their range and now in some cases, not even firing their guns at all

There's also the overblown (contrast problems?) looking explosions in Rambo III, which takes the nuance out of some fantastic practical effects, but that's another matter, I guess.

So, what about the Eagle version vs the Studio Canal or Lionsgate? The Studio Canal version does have sections that have macroblocking too.

Part two has it's trade offs on both discs too:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=16...1&a=2&go=1&l=1

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x...&l=1&i=11&go=1

But those that Pino shared are awful on the LG disc and here too:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...83680&i=17&l=1

StudioCanal is definitely the winner between the two. Hopefully some Eagle caps go up.
