funny you should bring up O'toole, we just had a Caligula viewing the other night.

Certainly a "memorable" role

Not pleasant to read - I hope Sony focuses on innovative products that add value so its products can command a higher price and return to profitability.
(I love the features in the Sony PS3, internet connected 3D Blu-ray players and Bravia internet connected TVs).

Sony plans to overhaul lossmaking TV division

(Reuters) - Sony Corp will pull together plans this month to restructure its lossmaking television business and even consider teaming up with other firms, a senior executive said this week, days after the company cut its full-year net profit forecast.

For some reason, upon reading the headline, I thought it was referring to their TV STUDIO division.

Aside from a few series ("Justified", "Drop Dead Diva", "Community", "Jeopardy", "Damages", etc.), I don't watch many Sony series compared to other studios, so I wasn't surprised.

On the plus side, my Sony HDTV is working again, so I'm back to enjoying HD goodness. Sadly, this means no 3D for a while...

You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman!
Like the good Dr. mentioned earlier I had preordered this back in April...and was getting a little antsy!
2011 just keeps getting better and better for BD catalog releases!

i really think manufacturers need to get away from annual product release cycles.. it must be costing them a fortune to r & d new products every year and in some cases for minimal gains.. wouldnt it make more sense to move to a 2 year or even longer cycle, and invest more in advancing tech.. i know tech comes along that forces the issue such as 3d blu-ray etc.. but it seems pointless to me to release a new tv range every year..

I just hope that my TV channel provider offers this at a reasonable pricepoint, when it comes to fruition…

as I want to sit (or stand !) with the Arsenal supporters every weekend ….no matter which stadium they play their matches in.

A little movie milestone was achieved recently….

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...=&utm_content=

And since I’ve previously spoken in detail of the 3D picture quality of this feature film, I think it only fair to give some attention to the audio esp. since Michael B. wrote this about it awhile back….

“This is the most complex, intricate sound track that me and my Academy Award winning sound team have done. They really out did themselves to make this a big picture experience. Hopefully you will have as much fun watching this movie as we all had making it.

Thanks,
Michael Bay "

Later, when I have more time I’ll fill folks in on a couple of the “thugs from Culver City” {as some bitter old men have said)…..thuggies who did the sound work on ‘Dark of the Moon’…….and the nasty room in which they plied their trade.

Now, since we’re in the middle of the baseball season. Today’s highly anticipated and oh so eagerly awaited ‘Tube of the Day which corresponds to this feature film…http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1210166/

Anyway, I am curious if it was possible for BD-Java to do frame cropping while watching a film.

The reason I am asking is because there is a debate going on in the Star Trek TNG bluray thread (mainly by me!) about whether they will reframe the episodes for 16:9 similar to what Sony did for Seinfield or whether to keep it in 4:3. One option I suggested was to have a BD-Java program do the cropping for 16:9 instead of just using the zoom button a bluray player since it will only crop on the center of the image while a BD-Java could at least allow cropping to occur in such a way that critical info is preserved.

My personal view is that I want the show to be redone in 16:9 similar to what Sony did to Seinfield in which they go back to the original 35mm film. This is not the purist view, but it is MY opinion.

Here is the thread if you are interested in offering your opinion.

Penton I guess this post got lost in the Apple talk yesterday.

Any thoughts?

^ No offense but, I saw your post and felt that other folks were more qualified than me in responding. My total knowledge of the Star Trek material can pretty much be summed up in the fact that back in the day I had breakfast with the actor who I know played Spock, namely, Leonard Nimoy at the Carriage Inn in Ridgecrest whilst he was on location for one of those Star Trek movies and I, with a friend, were headed on over to Sequoia National Park for a day of off-road riding (> 100 miles as we carried pre-mix in plastic Coke bottles in our fanny packs).

We had a good conversation but, it had nothing to do with Star Trek, per se.

P.S.
Oh, and I know that William Shatner played Captain Kirk. That’s it.
