After months of rumor and speculation, Variety confirms that 20th Century Fox plans to keep the "Aliens" franchise a live with a prequel film that will be directed by original helmer Ridley Scott. The announcement that Fox has hired a writer comes just two months after the 30th Anniversary of Scott's original sci-fi horror film which launched a series of movie sequels, a number of comic books, and two movies that pit the Aliens against Fox's other creature franchise, the Predator. Screenwriter Jon Spaihts has been hired to write the prequel after the studio was impressed by his work on two space thrillers, both for Keanu Reeves, called Passengers and Shadow 19.
Christmas has come early upon hearing that the Riddler is returning to the Xenomorph. You can bet ya that the script will be spot on & the movie the dog`s bollocks. It`l have style drenched in atmosphere dipped in the great man`s unrivalled, honey pot of talent.Because he`s an old geezer, let`s hope he does`nt shuffle off before he raps up the shoot.

I sincerely hope that RS directs in the same style as the original "Alien". I also hope that given the current 3D craze, this isn't foisted on him and that he is allowed to direct without gimmicks. I just want a classy movie, good script, charachters and above all beautiful photography.

Default WOOHOO! Ridley Scott to direct ALIEN prequel!

READ THIS!

At long last, Ridley Scott gets to direct another Alien movie. We finally get to see what happened to the Space Jockey, finally get to know what he was doing with all those eggs onboard his ship, maybe even get to see the Alien homeworld...unless those creatures were genetically engineered weapons and were born in labs...its such exciting news for us die-hard Alien fans.

Sweet Deal! Glad they returned to the quality director to possibly help spark a new series of prequels. Why stop at just one? And this time, please don't turn the franchise over to the Alan Smithys of the film industry.

Anyone know what movie was the very first prequel in film history? I don't know myself... just wondering.

LOL! We do tend to handle a ton of sequels here. Oh, by the way... did you hear that an Alien Prequel may be in the works?

Haha it seems I wasn't the first to break this news....but its still a wonderful development. Please God, let RS recreate that atmosphere of choking claustrophobia and terror from the original Alien, the greatest sci-fi horror film ever.

This is the best news to hit the Sci-Fi genre since the announcement of the SW prequel trilogy. Too bad those were a letdown. Let's hope this isn't.

Kinda ironic that the link to the other thread has been posted 3 times so far, just like this topic has been posted twice. I guess everyone is guilty of not looking sometimes.

As for the movie. I am definitely checking it out. Ridley Scott is the man.

Yeah, I said it.
Perhaps someone has chimed in on this but perhaps not, as I haven't read all the pages of comments yet. Cameron had gone on record of saying years ago that if Ridley Scott would have directed the 3rd Aliens film, that Cameron would indeed do another one (i.e. Alien 4). The studio though had no interest in having Scott come back to do one (not a bright move studios) so Cameron passed on doing another. I am a huge fan of the first two films, and while I enjoy David Fincher's work, I had a hard time accepting the third film. I realize the studio butchered his original vision of the film and after they slaughtered the film he wanted no part of it. The 4th film was just plain terrible.

With the news of Scott coming back on board for a prequel, perhaps we will see Cameron himself come back for yet another Alien film. I can't imagine the Alien franchise will die off with just a prequel so I expect this to be the beginning of something quite enjoyable.

What worries me is that Scott had mentioned he would like to do a reboot involving a totally different Alien. Another huge mistake in my book, and he had made those comments when there was talk of restarting the entire franchise, but hopefully that has changed since he is doing a prequel, rather than a reboot.

The Alien vs. Predator films were awful. I am sorry, but they were. If you took the Alien/Aliens films on their own, they present enough material to go forward in the direction the should have gone. I have some ideas I have tossed around in my head, I would love to put them to paper, on where I would like to see the franchise go. I am sure we all do.

The idea of a prequel though is still up in the air for me. The original crew of the Nostromo, most importantly Ripley, are pretty much nobodies in the film. However, we may see some back story, with a prequel to them, but is it enough? Chances are we will see them all at the end perhaps as well as seeing Ripley's daughter, since they hinted no that in the Aliens film (the director's cut only however). I guess we will have to wait and see what Scott has planned.

Now how about a follow-up to Blade Runner.....now that I would like to see.
