According to the most believable rumor, the EEs are supposed to hits the streets at roughly the same time as the first Hobbit movie (2011, I think).

I think putting together a quality BRD for the EE is not something you just printout of the computer. It takes some time and care, and PJ wants to be involved. With Lovely Bones and Hobbit looming, I am sure he is busy and will get to it the first reasonable chunk of time he has to make sure we get the best stuff.

So in a way, they are actually accomodating those of us (me included) that are impatient about finally getting these on BRD in one way or another by at least releasing the theatrical versions.
At least they are letting you know that a more ellaborated box set is coming in the future, so you can decide to buy or wait.
I will buy, so many times I have made blind buys and burned, that $60 in something I know I like and want doesnt bother me so much.

It's just plain smart to sell the TE's now and the EE's later. They're ONLY $20 each as opposed to the newer titles at $25-30. If you're thinking waiting two years to save yourself some cash, well, have fun with that and don't spend it all at once!

As interesting as that sounds right now, Guydowood, I'm still waiting for the LOTR extended editions.

Dito on that my friend. I do believe Peter Jackson is holding off on the BD-Extended version until the theatrical release of The Hobbit in 2011.

I will give these a rent, get my fix and wait and buy the EE when they come out. Hell, I have not even watched these films in over 2 years since I told myself next time I watched them would be on BR......If I can wait that long, I can certainly get my fix via a rental of the TE and buy the EE down the road. How many frickin times could I possible watch these before the EE come out? Maybe 2 times a year considering there are SO many other movies to watch as well..........I can rent these 1 or 2 times a year until the EE come out.

Bottom line, this is a waste of money for me IMO and will ONLY buy the EE. $60-70 is a lot of dough.

No way will I buy the TE.......I can rent these, get my fix and save my hard earned dough and buy the EE when they hit. Hell, I can simply rent these if I ever want to watch them and buy the "real" versions when they finaly hit. No brainer IMO.

I expect some retailers will have a street price for these in the $50-60 by the time Christmas rolls around assuming they release these in December. They will be hard to resist even if they aren't the EEs. I think many people who claim they won't buy them, indeed will. This set will also sell A LOT of Blu-ray players.

i will buy both i don't care. i already have both versions on DVD and LOVE the sound so i know for a fact the BD will be INSANE. hopefully, it will b 7.1 anything else will b a waste, i think. i can't wait if the release is near or on black friday blu players will really b better.

i think when these movies come out blu players may take off i think. i mean really, i THINK the next big hits might release 2010 xmas season.

Star Wars
Jurrasic Park
Jaws

i talked to some poeple and they are putting off Blu until they see these titles come out. yes, people older then me.

Theatrical versions priced at $69 with knowledge that the extended cuts are coming in the near future...hmmmm. NO SALE. I've seen the DVDs as low as $7.99 recently. I don't care how much I love those films. If Best Buy can offer a 9 disc set of X-Men Films at roughly $54.99 ($44.99 after the pizza coupon), then I am gonna wait. Folks, don't preorder and watch the prices on those adventurous hobbits free fall. If you preorder, you just give them incentive to leave the prices inflated.
