I can say unequivocally and without a doubt, 100% sure I have no idea why this happened but I'm 99% sure it's not for seamless branching.

Seamless is impossible for LOTR trilogy
In fact the last round of DVD's had seamless branching between the theatricals and the extended versions so it can be done for BD.

If they are delayed in fact, fine. Frees up some cash on my end for Black Friday buying

If not, then great.

I can live with the dvds, upconverting has done me well so far, I can handle a few months delay with no problem if it is revealed that they will be delayed.

Edit: Did Amazon.com ever have the November 3rd date? I don't really remember, because its not there now.

Is there enough space on a BD top fit the theatrical and EE on one disc??? if so I would assume that is the reason for the delay...Which in the long run would be pretty awesome.

Yeah, you'd just have to branch off earlier, and stay branched out longer.

King Kong had both versions of the film, each coming in at a good chunk over three hours, with a DTS-HDMA track and a couple of other DTS tracks, not to mention PiP features. I see no reason why they couldn't do that for LOTR and maintain the level of quality that Kong has.

Well its not like they have to include all those lame extras that you watch maybe once.

I'm curious how it would work if it is delayed for people who pre-ordered the set from WBShop. I pre-ordered it in a Buy 2, Get 1 free deal and they won't ship one of my items until Lord of the Rings is released. Rather not wait until next year for my items. WBShop is still taking pre-orders and showing the November 3rd release date so hopefully this speculation is incorrect.

Fearless has 3 versions of the film on one disc, granted it's a shorter movie then King Kong.

posted this prior to the delay 'announcement' that appeared just yesterday.

For what it's worth, it still shows 11/03 on Warners website (yes, I know this will probably change).

don't know how i feel about LOTR being delayed (if it turns out to be true).

on one hand, i really want these on blu, on the other hand, this is $70ish that i would be saving later this year!!!

i think if they do delay this release i'll cling onto the hope of a massive set being released complete w/both versions of all 3 movies w/every single extra available.

Why because they are putting a delay on Rings? That kills your whole enthusiasm? Jeez I guess those of us waiting for the un altered versions of Star Wars might as well kill ourselves.

On Yahoo news right now...there is a story telling of the lawsuit between the heirs of Tolkien and New LIne Cinema...saying it was settled. Maybe this has something to do with the delay. Check it out.

Maybe the lack of news is due to the lawsuit and now that it's settled, we'll get some sort of announcement. I'm hopeful of something soon.

The lawsuit may have been the reason for the delay but we still don't have an official word. I still have an ad for LOTR for 11/3 that came with 300. We'll see what happens.

Yeah, it was my most anticipated title(s) and something I've been wanting on blu-ray since I started buying them (they're my all-time favorite movies). It wouldn't have been as bad if they wouldn't have mentioned a release date but to get everyone excited about a Nov. release and then delay it, is really, really disappointing. We had actually planned to have a LoTR marathon over Thanksgiving but I guess that won't happen now although I realize we could just use the DVDs (the whole point to doing that though was to watch them in hi-def). Oh well, I'll get over it but it's still really annoying (if true).
