Wife and I love LOTR now BUT when Fellowship came out we rented it and had no clue what the heck was going on, thought it was boring, and couldn't believe it just ended like it did. When it was over we were confused and were like "this is IT, this is what all the hype is about". Neither of us had ever read the books or knew anything about it. When Two Towers came out we had alittle more knowledge and liked it alot. After that point and rewatching the first we LOVED it. We laugh now about how we used to not get it and thought it was boring, LOL. So I can see why people think that about it. You have to take the time to really WATCH it, not just half pay attention like alot of people do when watching movies.

Gandalf: Confound it all, Samwise Gamgee. Have you been eavesdropping?
Sam: I ain't been droppin' no eaves sir, honest. I was just cutting the grass under the window there, if you'll follow me. Gandalf: A little late for trimming the verge, don't you think? Sam: I heard raised voices. Gandalf: What did you hear? Speak. Sam: N-nothing important. That is, I heard a good deal about a ring, and a Dark Lord, and something about the end of the world, but... Please, Mr. Gandalf, sir, don't hurt me. Don't turn me into anything... unnatural. Honestly, the comic relief was necessary in such long and draining movies. So many scenes that I will applaud for to come in just the first movie, not kidding. I never applaud in the theatre but I will for LoTR, even if it makes me look silly in my own home. ![]() |

Galadriel: The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true.
Legolas: Hurry! Frodo and Sam have reached the eastern shore. [Aragorn does not move] Legolas: You mean not to follow them. Aragorn: Frodo's fate is no longer in our hands. Gimli: Then it has all been in vain. The fellowship has failed. Aragorn: Not if we hold true to each other. [pause] Aragorn: We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torment and death. Not while we have strength left. Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let's hunt some Orc. Gimli: YES! Some of the best lines EVER in cinema in these movies, God bless Peter Jackson for giving up nearly a decade of his life and probably a good deal of his sanity to get these movies done for us. ![]() |

Arwen: Do you remember when we first met?
Aragorn: I thought I had wandered into a dream. Arwen: Long years have passed. You did not have the cares you carry now. Do you remember what I told you? Aragorn: You said you'd bind yourself to me, forsaking the immortal life of your people. Arwen: And to that I hold. I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone. [hands him her pendant] Arwen: I choose a mortal life. Aragorn: You cannot give me this. Arwen: It is mine to give to whom I will. Like my heart. Honestly this bored me a bit in the novels but Tyler and Mortensen brought it to life for me in the movies. I do think they over-powered up Arwen a bit but that doesn't bother me as much as it bothers some. |

Gandalf: You cannot pass! Frodo: Gandalf! Gandalf: I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. Go back to the shadow. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun! You shall not pass! Galadriel: The power of the enemy is growing. Sauron will use his puppet Saruman to destroy the people of Rohan. Isengard has been unleashed. The Eye of Sauron now turns to Gondor, the last free kingdom of men. His war on this country will come swiftly. He senses the Ring is close. The strength of the Ringbearer is failing. In his heart, Frodo begins to understand. The quest will claim his life. You know this. You have foreseen it. It is the risk we all took. In the gathering dark, the will of the Ring grows strong. It works hard now to find its way back into the hands of men. Men, who are so easily seduced by its power. The young captain of Gondor has but to extend his hand, take the Ring for his own and the world will fall. It is close now, so close to achieving its goal. For Sauron will have dominion over all life on this Earth, even unto the ending of the world. The time of the elves is over. Do we leave Middle-Earth to its fate? Do we let them stand alone? ![]() |

I'd be up for that. Of course, I would see the irony of reading the Kindle edition of Tolkein on my iPhone. Sounds like something Saruman would do.

Its not like that for me... its a matter of attention, I start reading too fast and the words get lost on me. I can read fast, but its like the words lose meaning when I do it. I don't know how to describe it. It's not a dyslexia thing, its kind of like trying to admire scenery from a car driving 100 miles per hour, things start to blur together... That's the best way I can describe it.
