"Our latest information indicates that "The Lord of the Rings-Blu-ray" has not yet been released"
That's funny ![]() Who writes like that? "There's seem to be no proof, or anything indicating that this has already been released, as no information is readily available, thus we are not able to confirm or unconfirm anything." |

I was wondering something about the 'The Lord Of The Rings'-set on BD;
You have this whole thing about the "Theatrical Edition" coming out first. But will this mean the "Extended Edition" will only contain the extended versions? I mean, you have all these features on BD now and why wouldn't they use this feature called BRANCHING? Apparently they already did it with one of the DVD-versions, so it would be weird if not now. I can understand they want to sell the Theatrical version to make money, and actually also Peter Jackson himself prefers that version for some reason. But still ehm, some people would like to have both versions and I'm not going to be ripped off by buying 2 sets when they can put everything in one. I'm not complaining about marketing here, I would just really prefer branching if possible. It would just be perfect for such a big and long film you know. But yeah, anyone know anything about what will happen with this? If it won't happen, I'll just get the Extended Edition on BD, BECAUSE I have the Theatricals on DVD and of course they would also not be split into multiple discs. That's just the thing too, if I or anyone else didn't see the Theatricals, and the Extended Edition on BD wóuldn't come with the Theatrical version, those people would still have to get both sets to only be able to watch those. Wouldn't be really handy and quite messed up too. And in case anyone wonder whý I would want to see the theatrical versions, well for one I might not always want to put the extra time into it. But also because I'd like to see the differences and perhaps understand why the differences are. Just like Peter Jackson interestingly prefers the theatrical versions. If this was about just minor differences up to like 15-20 minutes, I wouldn't have cared, you know. But these films, each version differs from like a half hour to almost an hour in time. So that's why I really wonder what they're going to do with the Extended Edition(s). ![]() Last edited by Damage Inc.; 10-04-2009 at 06:04 AM. |

I know branching would be trickier than normal for these because there are various moments where alternative/extended takes are used, and the music is different, etc.
But I would think, though more complex, it should still theoretically be possible to do. I'd love that if they could do it right. Have both versions on one disc, all the bonus stuff on a second disc (or more if you want it all in HD). |

But I hope they'll at least try to use it, not enough releases have it I find. Quote:

All they have to do is start the branching earlier in the scene before the alternate takes/music are used. You don't have to branch just the added footage. Not hard at all. As stated, it's already been done on dvd, so the question of it being possible is not really a question at all. I don't see why people keep bringing that up.

Should be a piece-a-cake with the new and improved Blu-ray I guess. ![]() But yeah, it's still the question IF. I'm also getting the feeling it will be Theatrical and Extended for a while. Then later on, perhaps during 'The Hobbit'-films we'll get a Deluxe with both in one. Of course they're going to let/make us buy the separates first. Milky milky... ![]() ![]() |

Sorry for asking this if it has been already answered but, did they push back the release date to include the extended edition material as well ?

![]() I'll try to head 'em off for ya...... The 2010 releases will be the theatrical cuts only. It's rumored that the extended editions will likely be released around the time 'The Hobbit' is released in theaters. No, I don't have a link. |

But then promote the Extended Edition through 'The Hobbit'. However, it kind of makes sense they just release the Theatrical first, and then wait some time and release like the "bigger edition", you know. So they first keep quiet a bit for the people that don't realize there will be an Extended Edition. Rather than releasing them in the same month or a month apart, which would make it already be known that the Extended will come too, and makes even more people skip the Theatrical, going for the Extended. This way they can make most sales... Myself I do find they should have made it one great box though, just with everything in it. Of course then they have less chance that they would sell more units in numbers. But one definitive box would just be bought by everybody at least once. And I think that especially because these films have been out for years. That they should just dump everything already released into one release. Unlike with the DVDs, first right at the time the films were playing in theaters, they released the Theatricals on DVD. But only later on they released the Extended, I can accept/understand that. Now they obviously just want to do the same trick for sales, but it's a different situation. Again I'm mostly a bit pissy about probably not being able to get both versions in one go. But I'm definitely not going to get both boxes... Then I probably rather stick with the Theatrical DVDs I have already... Unless the Theatrical BD-box will get dirt-cheap at some point, I MIGHT get it. But meh... I'll see what comes out first, takes long enough as it is anyway. Long enough to not care anymore when they come out. XD So, indeed a quite stupid move/situation with the releases... Last edited by Damage Inc.; 10-09-2009 at 08:49 AM. |

I started watching the EE DVDs of LOTR a couple nights ago. I finished Fellowship on Wednesday night and finished disk 1 of Two Towers last night.
All the time while I'm watching them, I kept fantasizing about how stunning it would look on blu. I really can't wait for the EEs to come out on blu. If one movie needs the blu treatment it is LOTR. |
