This has always been an assumption. A few people conjectured that to be the case, and it has been repeated ad nauseum to such an extent, that many people have come to interprete it as reliable information.

If I recall from the bonus material on the RoTK Extended, the footage of Aragorn fighting Sauron was used, but Sauron is replaced by a troll.

A LOT

The extended versions are the only way to go if you're a big fan of the trilogy and just want more!

The opening part of Fellowship also has a slight difference in the sequence of scenes about the time Gandalf enters the Shire on his cart.

Actually, it would be "what's" (with an apostrophe since it's a conjuction of the two words "what is") to give a full correction.

BTW, can anyone seriously be asking what's the difference between the extended and theatrical cuts? Have they *seen* LOTR?

wow, just wow.

a post in the LOTR for someone who hasn't seen the EE.

it's more content and for the first movie a different beginning, the return of the king is 50 minutes longer in EE, the triology is 123 minutes longer all together, so u can imagine how much extra content is there.

go watch it, reguardless HD or no it will change ur LOTR movies experience.

Have really only watched fellowship of the rings in EE,and it gives the movie a more of an adventure/epic story feel rather than the theatrical version which is more of an action movie-feel.I know it is NOT an action movie, but that is the difference in essence I feel.I liked the EE much better than theatrical, but then again I don't much care for the movie-trilogy.The books on the other hand is one of my all time favourites along with Hobbit.

Since you mentioned about Books...I am planning to read the books over holidays. I have
1. Hobbit
2. Fellowship of the ring
3. Two Towers &
4. ROTK

Are there any other books that you recommend before reading these or these are the only four books for starters?

but if i remember right, there's no huge connection....if any at all.....between this one and the hobbit or LOTR.

u s/b fine w/these 4.

Those are for starters.Begin with The hobbit, then LOTR trilogy. If those have you hooked you can try your hand on The silmarillion, but mind:that is more of a backgroundstory for LOTR and somewhat a semantic-history of middleearth. It's ok (good if you like going into the history of middleearth),but I found it abit tedious.

I would check out wind in the willows if you like reading and haven't read it allready.Think it's in my top ten list of all time

Enjoy the middleearth in writing

Those 4 first. Then if you want more, read The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.

I would HIGHLY recommend reading The Silmarillion once you get through The Hobbit and LoTR. It's a different read, and yes there are lots of names. Took me 3 attempts before I could finish. (I found it much easier once you get past Ainulindalë, and Valaquenta -- so into Quenta Silmarillion which is the bulk of The Silmarillion) There are some GREAT stories in that book.

If you want something, still Middle-Earth but more in a writing style of the Hobbit and LotR I'd recommend The Children of Hurin (aka Narn i Chîn Húrin). Published posthumously by putting together the story as it was told in The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, Tolkien's Letters and other manuscripts his son had access too.

Thanks a lot for all the replies on books for Middle Earth. I have alreay started reading "The Hobbit" yesterday. I am planning to finish all 4 by the month end.

Then i will start looking into the following books you guys have mentioned...

1. The silmarillion
2. Unfinished Tales
3. The Children of Hurin
4. Wind in the Willows

Does any of these books should be read in any particular order?

Thanks in Advance...

The order you listed them in. WitW is not Middle Earth related. Just another book you may like.

"The Annotated Hobbit" (annotated by Douglas Anderson) is a good way to start, and "The Lord of the Rings - A Reader's Companion" (by Wayne Hammond and Christina Scull) is a good supplement to have while you are reading LOTR.

Does "The Annotated Hobbit" precedes "The Hobbit"?
