I'm getting the Best Buy or Futureshop steelbook release of the theatrical trilogy, then buying the extended versions when they are released down the road.
I will also be double dipping. I double dipped on the dvds so why not double dip for the blu-ray versions.

I will wait. I have the TEs on DVD but I'll probably rent them when they come to Blu-ray. Obviously hoping for a super-uber-release with both versions even though I'll have to live on the street after buying it

I'll be double dipping!

I have very little patience when it comes to waiting.

I'll enjoy the Theatrical Edition till the Extended Edition comes out in however long it takes and when the Extended Edition comes out i'll trade in the Theatrical Edition at MovieStop and pay whatever difference it costs.

I have already made a reservation for the Theatrical Edition at MovieStop.

I won't be double dipping because I won't be buying this set until they release the extended versions.

But what put it over the top is that my wife and I watch movies on Friday and Saturday nights only after we put the 3 year old down. We never once watched disc 1 & 2 of any movie in one night. Long story short, we started watching the trilogy on Christmas night, and never made it to disc 2 of RotK. We have watched the extended editions 5 or 6 times now, and what at first was great for my wife to get more info (having not read the books), is now more so a long movie experience. I'll be happy to have the theatricals back in the house - especially since it's one disc, and it's easier to push watching the end of a movie in one evening when you don't have a disc changing intermission... I'll buy the extended editions too when they come out, and hope that there is branching so I could sell the theatricals at that point in time.
I'm with you, Joe. Not being a HUGE fan -- I enjoyed the movies but I'll never read the books -- I decided to pre-order the Theatricals from Blockbuster. The only Extended Edition I saw was the first one (borrowed from a friend); the others I saw in the theatre and I enjoyed them as they were...

LOTR is exactly the kind of film I got into Blu-ray for in the first place. I'm willing to shell out $20 per movie for the Theatricals, especially since I don't own either version on DVD right now and won't be aware of the differences anyway. I probably WOULDN'T shell out the extra coin for the EEs right away, and that would mean another wait until they come down in price.

I'll probably end up double-dipping in 2-3 years time... maybe.

As for the runtimes, my wife and I are also on limited down-time and 3-hour movies don't happen very often!

Forced to double dip.

I think I'll buy these and sell on Ebay 3-6 months before the EE comes out. I cannot tolerate the DVD versions (EE) so I'm dying to see LOTR's again. I've been waiting 2 years for these.

Just 1.5 months to go....

I will double dip. As much as I love movies, I want to hear this movie in all of it's Dolby True HD glory, along with the 1080p PQ even more. I purposely have not watched the DVD's I have for almost a year now and have avoided it when on TNT as well. When the EE's are released, I will be there getting them day one, as I haven't seen the extended version for years now.
