...and THIS is why I will buy the theatricals without hesitation. Those cinematic experiences were the cornerstones of my late teenage years. I feel a great deal of adoration toward each of the original films, but it is with FotR that I feel it most strongly. Considering the immense build up to the opening of Fellowship, and the fact that I saw it about 13 or 14 times in the cinema, memorizing every beat of the film - this will be the version of the film I will always love. I spent two years anticipating it (reading the book for the first time, downloading trailers, taping behind the scenes specials, tv spots, etc.) and when I finally experienced it - every moment of the film became permanently etched in my mind. The Theatrical version of this movie is, without a doubt, my favorite movie of all time - and I want to experience that in High Definition.

Have they been announced yet? I can not see them when I search for them?

The Theatrical Editions!

Did they consider them garbage at the time? I doubt it.
That is a major point! I realize that the EE's are the ultimate statement as far as the movies go, but come on - the TE's are not exactly second-rate!

Double dip

this isn't a double dip its not like they are the same they have different lengths and the TE are the movies that all has come to love also.
Many LOTR fans want both versions. Like me

Yes, it's Warner.

I've decided I don't want either the TEs nor the EEs. I'm waiting for the BOOK VERSIONS (BVs) to come out on Blu.

No. It's more like the EE are so great they overshadow the Theatrical versions and make people ask "What's the point?"

Yeah, but who wants to wait another year or two? I want to see Rivendell in 1080P this year!

Pretty much.

The theatrical editions are good movies. I don't think anyone is trashing them, so much as trashing WB's decision to dupe people into double-dipping. I like the TE's, but I have no interest in owning them since I personally consider the EE's to be the definitive editions of the series, and the only ones I would want to watch.

I can wait.

You know, while mostly everyone here is concerned about the Theatrical Cuts VS The Extended Cuts, i am personally more concerned about how the films themselves will turn out on Blu-Ray (PQ and AQ)

I really hope they go the whole 9 yards on this release and we get the sharpest possible image and best quality sound possible. I have tried to watch these films upscaled to 1080p and it just doesn't do it for me. The films upscaled look horrible. I've seen how the HDTV broadcast of the films look as well and to be honest I wasn't overly impressed.

Seeing how well King Kong turned out on bluray perhaps my worries are unjustified. Besides The Star Wars Trilogy (1-6), Indiana Jones Trilogy, and The Aliens Anthology - this is my most anticipated release on bluray. They had better not mess this one up......

I will buy the Theatricals and not look back. More than likely not going to double dip. This will be enough for me.....

The problem with the PQ on this release is that if it's really good, it's going to show the many, many flaws in the CGI work

Oh yes, sorry... but what I said goes for Warner - they have all been region free thus far (at least according to this website http://bluray.liesinc.net/) so this probably will be too...

Remember, only a small, relatively rabid fan base cares about the extended editions.

People around here use words like "dupe" and "force" pretty carelessly.
