I understand if people are disappointed, but some of the pickiness is BEYOND ridiculous sometimes

Its just something to ***** about about for no reason...if you don't like it don't buy it...but at the same time don't dis the films so much that it deters a casual movie fan from buying them....everyone wants to be a critic...the world we live in...

I agree. I think people are kind of forgetting why we're all so excited about this release in the first place. It's The Lord of the Rings. The movies themselves are so incredible that casual blu-ray buyers should not be dissuaded, especially those who *gasp* have never seen the films. Not everything needs to be demo-material for a home theatre system.

Then they can buy the DVD version instead.

I'm deterring no one from drawing their own conclusions, but if anyone thinks it's unreasonable to expect *LORD OF THE RINGS* to receive all-star treatment, I really have nothing to say to them. If you always settle for less, don't expect to ever get anything more.

your correct but i think everyones expectations were so high that any little blemish is going to get beat to death. But this is all pretty silly judging from screen shots.....not everyone has a demos system to play these on at there houses.....so whats the complaining for....

Isn't that kind of what these forums are for? For enthusiasts to discuss the format? Joe-6-Pack can just go to Best Buy and pick up whatever he wants.

If your system does not allow you to readily distinguish

from this: http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9003/11252188.png

then really, you'd be happy with 95% of the releases out there, so what's the point of discussing anything.

FOTR always had a soft image anyways.

Plus, screeners don't have the best history in the world, especially with WB or New Line. Maybe the retail version will rock our socks off and we won't even see it coming.

My philosophy is wait and see it in motion. Screencaps can never really be a true indicator

You're right about waiting being a great idea, but the thing is, FOTR shouldn't have a soft image anymore; with the modern digital tools available now they could give it new life, at least for the shots that aren't VFX-intensive so re-doing them would be trivial... like that shot of Frodo. In the past, they were limited by film generation loss and obsolete scanning technology, but now you could scan the original camera negatives at 8K and extract every bit of resolution captured by the film, which is largely a function of the lens. And these movies were shot with very sharp lenses.

Personally, I suspect Warner will use the EE double-dip to its fullest, and give that version of Fellowship the revamped visuals. Maybe that's the "big surprise" Peter Jackson was talking about regarding the EEs Oh well, I'm patient.

This has nothing to do with FoTR having merely a "soft" picture, or defending the format it is carried on.
The precedence has been set, especially with releases like Braveheart...

There's no reason to expect any lesser quality. I friggin' love this movie. I love this trilogy. My father used to read to me TLoTR when I was a kid...

I want it to be the absolute best it can be. Fellowship should get a new master, if it does I will be the first in line to buy two....

Why not?!?!

It's one of the greatest film franchises of all time. That's all there is to say.

It needs to get top treatment.

I hope and pray they'll use this as an excuse to go all out on the EE, please do...

You are right the majority in this forum have systems...but the masses that the studios are targeting is the normal everyday family that will think that this release is the be all end all on their newly purchased walmart, target TV's and blu-ray players.

Bravo! I hope the studio execs are smart enough to know they're not just releasing "Beerfest".

Lord of the Rings is probably the most anticipated blu-ray release ever, I just hope people's love/memory of the films doesn't affect their ability to properly judge the quality of the transfer.

The heavily compressed screenshots look fine to me. The Blu-Ray's should look even better. Very excited. How about everyone just wait for the final product before passing judgement. And people comparing this to Gladiator are off their rockers.

I'm undecided at this point as to whether I'll buy the Theatrical or not.
I'll probably just rent it out from Netflix and wait for the EE.
