They wouldn't have to bother with the Special Features DVD's. I'm happy with those as they are. I am not keen on yet another EE version. You know:

+1 I feel the exact same way. The SD EE box set is some of the coolest packaging Ive ever seen and the extra discs have great content on them unlike most extras which are a waste of time.

But, I prefer watching the theatrical cuts after seeing the EEs several times now. I prefer the pacing of the theatrical cuts to the EEs. But, I want that packaging!

I do think that applies specially for The Return of the King. The theatrical version was already pretty good the way it was. If feels like they added too much stuff compared to the other 2 movies. I mean the scene where Gimli is blowing on the smoke in the ghost caves.....was that really necessary?

I wish there was a version with the theatrical version but with the voice of Saruman scene added.

Right. Gimli blowing smoke is not a neccessity!. However, there are additions that I do like, such as more Faromir backstory. But, I would forego that for the better pacing of the theatrical versions.

New Line will ofcourse release two versions, a movie company would be stupid not to pull revenue from all streams. it's a business people and you're the customers.

everything I've read says these blu-rays for 2009 will be theatrical version only,
we need to tell everybody on all websites and forums boycott this release tell people you know with blu-ray players don't buy this release we need to send warner a clear message Extend Edition or both but no Extend Edition = NO SALE!
damed if I'll triple dip on any title!

Oh christ, another cry of 'boycott' rings out from the dim masses...
It has already been established that the theatrical will be 2009, and the extended will coincide with the release of the hobbit.
If you feel like skipping the theatrical editions and waiting for the EE, more power to you but sod off if you think you have any right to decide for anyone else.
I plan to buy the theatrical and then two years later I will be more than happy to buy the EE and just to spite the people who complain I will probably buy multiple copies and give them to anyone I know with a blu ray player.

Yes, let us tell Warner we will not spend money on LotR, so that they then decide to not do the EE at all. That is what would happen.

ummm dont think so...too much money to be made on the EE's and they know it. With the economy tanking it would be a nice gesture on their part to not try and screw us over again. Pretty soon there might not be any customers out there......

Yeah how are those boycotts working for the Warner titles with the lack of audio formats?
The money will still be made on the EEs, and this way they will make that plus another load on the theatricals.

I probably wouldnt end up getting these. Has nothing to do with not wanting to spend the money. Ive just seen these movies so many times. I cant find a reason to buy them just so they can look a little better.

I would probably just netflix these.

Let me send you my address...

They can have your money, but Warner won't get mine. I will only buy the EE blu-rays, since I think they are the better and most definitive films. At least the Theatrical version blu release will let us know the probable AQ & PQ of the EE blu release.

Ok, think what you want. I will be happy with my theatrical next year. I don't want to wait 3 damn years for the EE.
