Yeah well those are still above average movie experiences. To me, It's always awesome to see something on IMAX.

I heard that an HD TV channel aired LotR in high-def... anyone know if the Blu-ray will be an improvement on that? I ask because the review for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (which came out the same year as The Fellowship of the Ring) said that PQ was the same as when it had aired on TV.

I think the max resolution for cable TV is only up to 1080i so far, so the blu-ray should be an improvement at 1080p technically. But I haven't had cable for about a year so someone else might be able to give more info.

Off-topic: is there a big difference between 1080i and 1080p? My set is 1080i and Blu-ray is excellent..

Difference? Yes.

How much of a difference? Depends on the size of your display.

Yes. Tv broadcasts have noise and other deficiencies I did NOT notice with SS. The network in question is TNT and, despite common flaws, LOTR looks great.

Unfortunately, you'd need more than cable and TiVo. You'd need HD cable and an HD version of TiVo ($$$).

Default It will be Double dipped

The theatrical versions will start coming out in 2009. The extended version will come to Bluray just before the release in theaters of The Hobbit!

My first post btw.

Thanks for the info, man. You have a legitimate source?

The anticipation is half the enjoyment. I was so disappointed after I saw the last LotR installment. Didn't think we'd have anything but Narnia and Harry Potter to look to.

That's the current rumor according The Digital Bits. Nothing has been official announced.

I believe (based only on a hunch) that they will be stringing out the releases between now and the release of The Hobbit. Since they've only tentatively announced Fellowship, we know they're not going release all of the movies at once. My guess would be one theatrical every few months followed by one extended every few months, with the release of ROTK-EE a couple of months before the first Hobbit movie.

Yes, because WB is stupid enough to short change one of their most lucrative franchises.

Too bad Lucas said "I have no future plans for Star Wars in high definition." Eh?

Hmmm.....the dark night says high.

Yea the imax shots look good but the 2:40:1 shots could of been better.
and the soundtrack should of been 24bit but they brought it down to 16bit why? they do that to all of there movies. exspect the same for LOTR to go along with some EE and DNR, warner sucks major ass.

Well, when I had HD cable, it was the same price as the regular digital cable I had before, and the DVR service was only $10 per month more, so not that bad really.

Who knows? There's more to quality than just the technical stuff.

Besides, PJ will probably give these blus his personal touch, which might benefit them.
