What? You are going to do side by side comparisons WITHOUT sceen captures? Haven't you heard that screen captures are THE ONLY way to compare with the BR?

(he said dripping with sarcasm)

I'm just curious what the hubbub is about. I can't believe that the broadcast HD version is better than the BD, but hey, maybe it is. Guess I'll see for myself as opposed to analyzing someone elses' analysis of screengrabs.

I just miss the days when we were discussing the Theatrical Editions vs. the Extended Editions and actually talked about the films themselves, rather than the tech specs of other posters' home theatre setups, debate skills, etc.

I look forward to all of the opinions about the actual release, when in fact it's released here in North America.

But, if the Gladiator discussion is any indicator, the people who want to see problems will see problems. Some people refuse to go into it with an open mind and judge for themselves whether they like it or not. I was guilty of that with Gladiator until today. I was pleasantly surprised.
This is nowhere as near as bad as Gladiator

How much was it at Blockbuster?

Maybe Warner Bros is intentionally trying to lower expectations.

I'm not sure I understand this... if you go to the store you should be paying like $5 for the case and then you get $5 off the blu rays on release day. If its online then you might be paying like up to $15 for the case on its own (with no money off the discs when they're released)... is it that you're trying to buy both the case and the blu ray release online as separate items? Because yes in that case, you don't get the case for free you pay for it separately, it has to be bought in store to get the money off the blu ray release, and even then you still have to pay $5 in advance. (I do believe)

While I have been watching the TBS HD broadcasts the past couple of days, as a result of all the posts on this thread, I have been looking for "softness", DNR, EE, and all kinds of nitpicks. Definitely took away from enjoyment of the films. I hope I don't do that when the BD's get here on Monday.

I think thats the problem, people wanted and excpected such a high profile release to blow them away, not just be pleased by it.

Viewing something with a discerning eye is a good thing in my book. By nitpicking the HD broadcast, as a viewer, you have a frame of reference as to what's acceptable / unacceptable between this source and the Blu-ray offering, so that when you wish to view any installment in the trilogy at a later date, you can choose the better of the two sources, then view it unencumbered (i.e. not worrying about the technical details). Think of it as a one-time chore that makes things more enjoyable in the long run.

yes. I was trying to preorder both for in store pick up and it was charging full price for movies and 15 for steelbook by itself. I wasn't aware of the deal you mentioned. I even talked to someone at the best buy and they weren't aware of the deal either! Thanks for clarifying!

O.V.N and Suntory,i think as you say a lot of peolle who are not happy with the "Fellowship" transfer have not yet seen it,o.k as i said when i watched it it's not perfect, but it's no where as bad as some people are making out.

And like you guys say people who have seen it,are on the whole very happy with it,but like anything it comes down to your own opinion in the end.

On Good Friday I spotted a few on the shelves at BestBuy. I believe somebody else said that their local Wallyworld had them out already.

Good luck.
