I wish newline had a HD master of all three films and put it out on blu-ray before warner took full control. At least that way we would of been garanteed DTS-HD MA 7.1.

Those wishing it warner will give us a DTS-HD 7.1 MA track can keep dreaming from now on. Its either going to be dolby digital or dolby true hd.

Warner has used DTS on four of its DVD titles (batman special editions anyone) which was very rare so you never know but I say that was just some luck and I doubt we will see that again so I will not hold my breath.

Everyone spreading all of the Warner hate, thinking that somehow they will totally screw up the LOTR disks, are forgetting one important thing. Peter Jackson has a lot more say over how these discs will be put together than the typical filmmaker ever would and will never allow anything half-arsed to see the light of day.

Have some faith, people.

Hey Martin.

There's actually a Lord Of The Rings In 2009 thread already. Why don't you go check there?

I think the prof is on crack. Even I consider Bombadil essential for the books.

And unless we have actual notes from Tolkein saying that he was considering removing those passages, the prof is just speculating.

Interesting. . .I tend to agree with the professor. It's a total sidetrack in the book. The plot is at a standstill. And my biggest problem is this--what is Tom Bombadil?

If you've read any of the Histories of Middle Earth, you know that LOTR was revised more than your average book. Tolkien had virtually dozens of beginnings to the story. If he had done one more rewrite, I think there's a good chance he would have realized the futility of Bombadil.
