I have a 50" Plasma and sit 6 feet away. That look about right for picking up detail?

My reason is that this will be, regardless of the final transfer verdict, the best these films will look on our home theatres to date! (the free steelbook at best buy didn't hurt either) God knows when they will release the extended editions, too!!! (probably this November since I've just committed to these!)

Talk with you soon! This was fun!

I totally understand your feelings and I can understand your decision. The EE release date is a mystery at this point IMO. No matter how the transfer turns out for you (obviously I hope you enjoy it), the audio should impress without question and is what I am looking forward to when I give it a rent

That is cool that your friends were converted with the EEs Glad they found one of the versions to really love since these are such great films.

Good talking with you as well

Trilogy is now $60. I changed my mind AGAIN and I'm definitely buying this. I just bought Serenity and Death Race for $20... I like LOTR 1000x more and it only costs 3x that much. Bargain!

I also turned up my EE's on my system for the first time and was disappointed in how much of a difference I could hear between its lossy track and the ones on my other BD's... It will be so nice to hear LOTR's DTS-HD MA. I never factored in AQ in my purchases because I lived in a 2nd story apartment and didn't get lossless but now I do and live in my own place!

I have a 50" and sit probably only 5-6 ft. away. My theater is a bedroom.

I did not vote on the new poll as I had decided long ago that I was waiting for the Extended versions. If the EE was being released tomorrow, I would buy them without hesitation as I doubt I would notice what has been discussed/debated in this thread, given my limited set-up and un-trained eyes.

I hope all who have already bought or will buy the TE's enjoy 'em and I hope to be doing the same sometime in the future if and when the EE's are released

They won't feel like an idiot if the EEs are no better in quality.

They didn't fight in the book.

Probably same PQ, they're not going back to the lab just for the EE's come on, Studio's arent stupid, they probably already have the EE"s done, just think about it, how many Blu's have the extended and theatrical release on one disc. Its because they are done at the same time, Jackson just wants to squeeze every buck he can for this film, and i dont blame him. You would do the same with a Title this big.

i am really torn between buying this or waiting for extended, is the PQ alot better then the DVD? i mean so much so its worth paying 60$ to someone already spent their BR budget for the month?

also i see alot of people talking about viewing distance, i have a 42" and sit maybe 4-5 feet away what is the proper length? someone told me at 42" you should sit like 6-7 feet

Jackson doesn't own the rights to the movies and as far as i know, he is not in control of this release.

After all the complaints i have a feeling they will go back and fix it up, they have done it before and i don't see a reason not to.

My guess is the EE will come around when the hobbit hits theaters and will have better PQ or they will atleast re-evaluate the first film judging from all the negative responses it got

i just want to know if the PQ is significantly better then the DVD if so ill jump on these, i personally don't care for the 900 hour EE (sarcasm obviously ) i just don't have the time to watch those versions but if the PQ is better then this release ill defiantly buy it

i just can't get a straight answer about the PQ to justify 60$ half the people i ask say no, a quarter of the other half say stick with the dvd and up converter and the other quarter say the PQ is way better then the DVD, obviously the PQ isn't mind blowingly 5/5 awesome like everyone wanted but if it is significantly better then the DVD that is good enough for me

There's no law saying you have to buy things on their release date. If you've already spent your budget for the month I'm sure you'll still be able to buy the movies next month.

I'm considering these now I find out my better half wants them. I was ready to wait for the EEs. I have $50.00 worth of reward bucks from BB. I don't think I'd feel good about paying full price for 'em though. I still want the EEs.

Just glad the day is finally here, even if I have to wait till Wednesday afternoon to start watching the films. I've been waiting for this day for 2 years, since I sold my TE DVDs in anticipation of a blu-ray release.
