I really don't want to buy this twice but it sounds.....SO GOOD. Should I buy it now, wait for the price drop or stick it out for the EEs?

I have 60 in my paypal that I could convert to an Amazon gift card.

Just became a member have been reading and researching my purchases and rentals on here since I got a blu ray player. I guess 1.5 years ago or so.

Personally I love these films. When I first bought my first projector the first scene I put up was Helm's Deep.

I am very disappointed by FOTR. I am not sure if it is the transfer or the actual production but I rented all 3 and I will not buy until the studio go back and improve the first film.

As soon as I watched Two Towers it became apparent that there are major issues with the first film and given that they were released only a year apart it is quite perplexing.

Have not yet watched Return of the King but based on reviews and watching the Two Towers I assume it will rock.

If you love these films and are ok with the last two being fantastic and the first one looking slightly better than dvd quality than jump in and buy otherwise have a fantastic time renting them.

I am glad I rented and I will hold off on buying until they fix up the first film, if they never do this I can live with renting once in a while or firing up the EE dvds.

Its all personal preference but for those who are killing themselves as to whether to buy or not I say rent. People seem too keen to buy in general and I say if in doubt rent and if you love it buy it.

My setup is Optoma HD80 1080p projector, Sony BDP350, Cambridge 840A and Spendor S5es.

Screen is probably 70 inches or so

And in my opinion there is a HUGE difference between FOTR and Two Towers. Some of my colleagues at work bought it and they feel the same way.

Finally if it is true that they spent 100 hours on the transfer, and it may not be, that is a disgrace.

FOTR: Video 2 Audio 5
TT: Video 4.5 Audio 5
ROTK: watching it tomorrow.

Thanks everyone

They left Bag End on September 23 and the Ring was destroyed on March 25, so it was about 6 months. By the way, if you're interested we are reading the book as a group and it would be great to have you! Link: https://forum.blu-ray.com/group.php?groupid=71

Ok I must say that I have never written a review for a Blu-ray before and since these are easily my favorite films of all time I thought I would take a crack at it now. I just watched FOTR and my viewing equiptment was a 46" Samsung LCD (Calibrated) and I was sitting about 9 feet from the TV.

Honestly guy's, I don't know what the big fuss was about. I thought FOTR looked really darn good. I thought the colors were vibrant, the black levels were really dark, and for the most part I thought the picture was solid pretty much throughout the entire movie. There were parts that looked very soft. Many part's indoors seemed soft. Rivendell looked soft but I can attribute that to Rivendell being a fairytale kinda place. It just has always had that feel to me. The part that really stood out was the Mines of Moria. That my friends is demo material. Now I wont give a score for PQ because I am no video expert but I was very pleased with what I saw. I am however a audiophile and the audio track on this film was one of the best I have ever heard. I listen on a 7.1 system and all 7 channels were active nearly the entire movie. My new BIC Acoustech PL-200 sub got quite the workout with all the bass throughout the movie.

To wrap up my review I will say this to you. FOTR has never looked nor sounded better. Were there soft scenes? Yes there's no denying that but it's always been the softest of the trilogy. Could it have been better? We may never know the answer to that. All I am saying is that I was very pleased with FOTR and since everyone is saying that TTT and ROTK are a lot better then I can only say that I am very excited to watch both of them. I watched FOTR with a smile on my face and with the other two i'll probably be grinning from ear to ear.

Now that my review is over I'd like to say a little about these films. I am very protective of these films. These films to me are my safe haven and my escape from everyday troubles. When I watch these I am in a complete other world. In my heart I believe that is what a great film is for. I just appreciate the effort that went in to making them. It took thousands of people to be away from their loved ones for a long time to complete this masterpiece trilogy and for that I am very grateful. I am very thankful to Peter Jackson for taking such care of these films. I know he didn't do it alone and he must have had one hell of a team under him to make this work. I have supported this trilogy monetarily in the theaters, on DVD (both the EE's and the TE's), and now on Blu-ray. I will continue to do so for the next formats to come. I believe this is filmaking at it's best, and we are damn fortunate that these films were made.

Thanks for looking at my review and for those people who read my comments on these films in general I appreciate you taking the time out. Keep supporting these films everyone. They are truly one of a kind.
I have never read so many great member reviews in a given thread...ever.

I am just gonna Netflix them. As much as my heart is saying buy buy buy, my brain won the battle because when I purchase the same thing twice a small part of me dies.

Underworld great review, and I appreciate your comments very much. Thank you. As for the age of Legolas, if he was 6400 years old then that would mean that he undoubtedly fought in the first war of the ring against Sauron, wouldn't it? But there is no evidence to support that since he really never was, so he would have to be no older than 3000 years during TLOR. Just making an assessment. You have a fantastic knowledge of TLOR Grand Bob, that's why I'm joining the group.

I've completely watched FOTR and TTT and I can say with the uptmost honesty that these films have never looked or sounded better. It's almost like watching them for the first time again. Really takes me back 7-8-9 years to when I first saw these. I'm having a blast revisiting these films.

Yes, Best Buy was selling them. I am not sure if they still are, but I believe so. They are more like a sticker book in the US. I hear the ones in Canada are much nicer.

I WILL get these eventually. I'm just looking for a nice price drop sometime down the road. The thing I love about the EE's is it's loaded with features. This release doesn't have too much . You'd figure they would have some new interviews in HD etc.

Watched the FOTR last night.

I honestly dont get all the negative feedback it got. The Shire is the worst looking. It is soft, but a big upgrade to the DVD imo. Especially when they get out of the Shire .

I give the PQ a 4/5

Audio is where it is at my friends. Great clarity and the LFE . Freaking house was shaking lol. The score has never sounded better

AQ 5/5

So glad I bought this. I was dead set on not getting this because of all the chatter on it. But its well worth it. If you are a fan of this movies (im a big fan), you have got to pick this up.

Default What Is All The Fuss About??!!!

I broke down and reluctantly purchased the LOTR Trilogy last night at Best Buy $59.99 (sale ends today). I watched several scenes from each movie and yes FOTR is the least flattering of the three movies. Is it terrible? No not at all and the BD is still better than DVD. Some of the long shots don't look crisp and clear (parts of the Shire scenes look amazing and others not so). I was slightly distracted from the movie only because I was looking for what people have been saying about the BD transfer of FOTR. The TT is much better and the ROTK is one of the best BD's I have ever seen! Of course the audio is top notch! Is it worth buying? Definitely yes as this is the best the trilogy has ever looked. And how long do we (I prefer the EE's only because the added scenes actually enhanced the story line) have to wait for those movies to hit BD shelves? Possibly two to three years if not longer!

I am glad a lot of people have used common sense and judged these releases using their own eyes, and have found the releases picture quality to be very good overall, and the sound awsome.

The "Digital bits" review had quite a lot of good advice in it,as they told people to judge for themselves, and it looks like a lot of people have.
