i can't complain. I got all three for $11 each, and before street date. Those special features all seem pretty useless when you've seen the docs on the extended editions anyway. |

Dammit I caved. Since we have no idea when the EE's will be coming, I went ahead and ordered these today. $45 for the whole trilogy is pretty damn good. Sigh, this will be the 3rd time I have purchased these films now. Still can't wait for the Extended Editions on Blu-ray.

Considered picking these up at Walmart today but... I think they messed up the quality of these on purpose so that they can sell more of the extended editions.
That said... I like the theatrical cuts alot. (Why did they extend movies that were too dern long to begin with.) So... I may get these... I just can't decide so far. |

I actually had the $15 in cash.... ( no tax here) ... So I was very tempted.
Of course... You can rightly buy just one of them so I have to know it's $45 from the start. I bought both versions on DVD and actually prefer the theatrical cuts in general. If they had given it 5 star video,... I wouldn't have to have these second thoughts. -Brian |

That being said, I enjoyed the extended cuts, but Warner is gonna milk this thing for all it is worth—can you really blame them? You can bet that when they get the extended cuts released, that won't be the last incarnations. A final release will include both Hobbit films with the LOTR films in one comprehensive box set—but that may be as much as 5 years away. At $15 a film these discs nearly sport a theater ticket price. So, I agree with you, enjoy what you have now and save your pennies for tomorrow. Last edited by AaronSCH; 09-14-2010 at 06:45 PM. |

I may spring for these since I was waiting for the price to go down on the trilogy set. The extended editions are interesting, but I think the new scenes really throw a kink in the pacing of the movies. I didn't like all of the new orchestrations either. I prefer the theatrical cuts.

i am not gonna get these versions, i dont care if its bluray i am not double dipping unless its the extended cuts. i am not just a fan of the movies, but of the books too and they left way too much out. EE's are a dream come true especially for fellowship. now im too used to the EE scenes and it will bug me to see great scenes like galadriel giving the gifts out of the movie. so im waiting for the EE's, im just fine with my DVD sets for now. i just hope we dont have to wait till the stupid hobbit movie gets made.

Why do people think a film adaptation supposed to cram in everything from the source text

exactly, I believe a movie should be able to stand on it's own two feet, not on the feet of the book. if the movie does nothing but take the name of the book and characters and changes everything I have no problem with that. if there has to be MASSIVE changes from the books I don't mind. the book is one thing and the movie is another thing. I don't think the 2 even have to overlap

very simply put, what may work for prose and page may not always work for film. It can disrupt the flow of the movie, etc.... also what may work for film may not translate to book medium. each is their own unique form of communication and require different criteria to make each work on their own. Some may overlap but others may cause conflicts.

Odd problem. I ordered the single editions of each of the films, but got some differing products. In each, I got the blu-ray version of the film. However, in ROTK I got a DVD of the special features, but TTT and FOTR came with digital copies. Which is correct? Should these versions include digital copies, or special features?
