Are you aware that by renting the trilogy twice a year till whenever the EE's come out, that you might as well have bought the darn thing now? It's not like the TE's are gonna be worthless once the EE's hit. Keep 'em in good shape and you might get half your money back to put towards the EE's.
And i think it's hilarious that people on this forum always throw out "the economy sucks" argument when they think something is too expensive. This isn't a bread, water, and shelter forum.
You have a problem with people expressing their choices and opinion? Only your's is valid? Look buy the thetrical cut if you are happy with it and let others decide what they want to buy, it's not like they are forcing you to wait for watching the movie, they prefer waiting for the EE because that's how they love watching these movies. To hear you talk one would think you work for New Line and are personaly being ripped of some money because people want to wait.

Hold on. Because he's living for the moment, does that justify the name calling? I don't see the harm in owning both the Theatrical and Extended versions if you have some extra coin to spend. At least the studio told us in advance the EE is coming. If you want to discuss the true ills of double dipping, start a No Country for Old Men double dip thread. Now that was a travesty.

Would you guys prefer that they just waited till 2011 and released the EEs along side the Hobbit like the plan is or rather have a taste of them now? I'll take the taste of them now if I can get them at a decent price.

Ditto. This Trilogy is worth the double dip.

Dude...be reaslistic...do you think its ever going to change? Studios see cash...so they will milk till the title runs dry.

But name calling...no need for that. Just because you are happy with your release and have no intention of buying the theatrical blu...thats no need to name call. I will double dip for I LOVE the movies. Its my money and if I choose to give them some of it for a product I want, so be it.

Going to wait for the Director's Cuts. After I bought the theatrical cut of the first film in DVD, and then the DCs started appearing, I gave away the TC and went totally with the DCs after that. No double dipping again for me.

Nice try, brother, but those flaws you're talking about are present in the film master. It is a very faithful transfer. Not the best picture the Blu-ray could have had, but a faithful transfer of the film source, and that's all I'm asking for here.

In an early announcement to retailers, New Line Home Entertainment in conjunction with Warner Home Video have revealed the cover art for 'The Lord of the Rings Trilogy' Blu-ray and Amazon has begun taking pre-orders. The release currently does not have a release date, but it is expected to be released later this year - most likely during the holiday season
Retail pricing for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-ray is set at $99.98 with Amazon pricing pre-orders at $69.99 or $23.33 per film if you want to break it down Amazon.com Pre-Order

I can't understand all those who are in the 'i'm waiting for the Theatrical cuts' camp.Any self respecting LOTR fan or movie fanatic should own BOTH of the cuts anyway.

New Line is merely replIcating it's DVD release strategy of releasing the Theatrical cuts first and should be respected for being upfront with us.

You can't really blame the studios for 'double dipping' as the real enemy here are the idiots who buy/download sub-standard copies of movies. The only way for the studios to recoup their loses is to bring out multiple versions i'm afraid.

I'll be getting the Theatrical version and then upgrading later on to the Extended Edition.

I'll just trade in the Theatrical for credit towards the Extended edition.

Well, I'm a huge fan of LOTR, not necessarily a "fan"atic. I just love watching it period. What are the exact differences between the theatrical version and extended version anyway? I can't find the differences anywhere... I think I just have the theatrical versions on SD.

I agree....

as far as "Movie Fanatic" I'd put myself in that category.... but there is no way I'll buy these..... Theatrical, or Extended..... I just don't find any enjoyment from them.... Some parts are serious... others are silly..... and they "make up the rules" as they go.... in a bind???? MAGIC will save you..... friend in trouble?? Oh... we'll use the magical toe-nail of Urbina to save the day.....

I still think it will look/sound great... but not my cup of tea!

Not trying to thread crap though.... I'm happy such a big title is getting a release... and as I stated earlier... it'll be interesting to see what strategy the other studios deploy to either let consumers soak this one up.... or try to put out their own big titles to try to pull consumers in.... heck... maybe they'll just go with business as usual

New Line can kiss my ass if they think Im going to be a sucker and buy the theatrical versions and then double dip later and buy the extended editions.

I really hope the fans send a message that if you cant give us the version we want then don't bother releasing them.

It would be ideal that they release both versions though via seemless branching.

Why are so many of you surprised that these are the theatrical versions? The practice of double dipping is never going away.

I'll buy it when it's on sale.
