Maybe the backlash (of which Amazon seems to be ground zero) has gotten Warner's attention:

"In a few weeks, Warner Bros. is planning to make an annoucement about their plans for a Blu-Ray release of BOTH the Theatrical and Extended Editions of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. You may now begin cheering or cursing depending on whether or not you own a Blu-Ray player."

Very interesting.

If true, I can see two versions of LOTR being released.

1) Theatrical set.
2) Super boxset containing both theatrical and extended versions.

In other words, if you want the extended, you have to buy both.

Yeah, I'm a pessimistic SOB.

This would be excellent news if they released both. Heck, I'd buy a box set with both the Theatricals and Extended cuts if that is what it takes to get the Extended cuts this year.

I just have to say I am sick and tired of hearing people whine about not getting the EEs right away.

I don't understand the anger over it, in an interview with PJ last year sometime he hinted that we wouldn't get the EEs until near the Hobbit. Also did anyone really expect a film studio NOT to try and milk the holy sh*t out of this franchise?

Anyway reading back I got sick of the pissing and moaning and had to say something.

Exactly. It's not like they're NOT going to be released. And we all KNOW this. So you can't feel tricked, duped, screwed, shafted, etc. If you buy the November releases, you do it knowing full well the EEs will be released too.

If you only want the EEs, then rent the theatricals.

It has been well established now that the current movies being released are NOT the theatrical editions. I think the EE whiners should get a thread of their own and ***** and moan all they want in it.

Everyone should level their expectations- this is an announcement about them, and I would expect they are going to discuss the plans for there release, like a timeline.

I highly doubt they are both coming out at the same time in the fall.

I have already read a handful of posts where people are already claiming or assuming they are coming out, That will never happen unless PJ found some time in his already swamped schedule to dedicate to making them.

So, just stay angry about the double dip, cause if you start thinking they are also coming in Nov and are not going to have to double dip, when they make some disappointing announcement that the plan is to release them in 2010, or 2011 with Hobbit, you are going to be even angrier then you are now and the posts will get even more viscious

If they are going to announce anything about the EEs it'll likely be that they plan to release them a week or a month before THE HOBBIT comes to theaters.
PJ wants to work on these and isn't going to bow to pressure to rush them.

Looking at it from two different aspects, if I were a business (e.g. New Line/Warner), I would be trying to make money and I would issue the theatrical and EE versions separately. As a Lord of the Rings fan, I will buy both - separately or together - it doesn't matter. Either way is OK.

Yeah. I got LOTR, Gone With The Wind, Sarah Connor Season 1 and 2, Wild Pacific and 300 Digibook for $150. The %off came to about 50% off everything, so LOTR came to about $13/film. For that price, I'll buy and double dip...

The WBShop sales were a fun ride while it lasted...

It would be great if people who feel cheated protest enough and actually follow through.

Something tells me, though, that the majority of complainers will end up buying the theatrical releases anyway.

Maybe I should be a man and bypass the theatricals. Really the only reason I wouldn't is because I don't want to spend the extra $$ on EEs I already own on DVD...

I imagine they'll run at least $35-40 a piece. I can't really justify spending $100+ on them.
