I realize that’s ^ a long and involving video, but given the Visual Effects Society Awards are to be handed out tomorrow at the Bev Hilton, for background into that particular part of the industry,
curious minds into how things work might want to skip to the presentation by Ashley (who was involved in multiple episodes of Lost In Space) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SaoO52p0bE#t=43m48s |

I think Dolby's gonna need a bit more of that flexibility going forward, as things like the fixed clipping level on the Panasonic players' DV implementation and the various issues with the DV on the ZD9 aren't a great advertisement for the format.

Hey guys, wonder if anyone has a similar issue or knows of a good fix for this problem:
I just (finally) picked up my Panny 820 last night and hooked it up. I tested Billy Lynn's 60p 4K image at first and it looked and sounded great. Then I popped in Black Panther 4K with Dolby Vision. And right away I noticed the same issue I am having with Dolby Vision Netflix content on my Apple TV 4K; the audio is out-of-sync. I had my Panny player and Apple TV hooked up to my Yamaha RX-a760 receiver. It's capable of Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision passthrough. My display is the LG E6 OLED. When I tried separating the video directly into the OLED with another HDMI going into the receiver for sound, I had the same issue. So I can't figure it out if my display is slower at processing Dolby Vision content or if there's some other issue here. In my receiver, I can change the lip sync and reducing it by 300ms seems to be where it's at for normal viewing, but it's a pain to have to go into the menu to change it back and forth with each non-DV video I watch. My buddy suggested that if I separate the video and audio again then I would be able to use my TVs audio sync feature, which I will have to try tonight. But again, I am only experiencing audio sync issues when watching Dolby Vision content. All other HDR and SDR content plays without issue. Thanks! |

Just thought of something. As I was reading a very in depth article about the upcoming Disney/Fox deal, I wondered if Disney will yank all the 4k off ITunes since they strongly disagree with the pricing strategy by Apple/ITunes. Or they could keep the current 4k catalog on there, and release all future Fox movies in regular HD to Itunes.
