Peak brightness of ~ 31 foot-Lamberts (think about twice as bright as conventional D-Cinema projection), but also importantly is a contrast ratio approaching 1,000,000:1 with Dolby Cinema.

Hey, I was just talking about you in the Premier League thread. Time to get your viewing priorities in order. (hint, hint).

Sheesh Geoff, that post wasn’t directed toward you, or anything you may have said in the past…and nothing personal to Mister either.

You missed the point. Point being, just because the deployment of something advanced may be in its infancy, don’t condemn the tech, as you gots to start somewhere , analogy….. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post11472800

Or if you prefer something more video related

I watched Kingsman earlier - the plain jane regular SDR 8-bit 100-nit Blu-ray that might as well have come from the goddamned Dark Ages - and I thought it looked absolutely stunning. Beautiful anamorphic photography with them Hawk lenses (they've got a different 'feel' than Panavision glass, they also breathe a bit more when racking focus) and the encode itself was peerless, it puts the likes of Lionsgate to shame. If the UHD is that much better, fine, but don't tell me I didn't just sit through an absolutely superbly handled Blu-ray.

I don't doubt that people are experiencing these incredible epiphanies when they watch HDR/UHD stuff but for me, where I'm at right now with my gear, I'm failing to comprehend just how much better it can get. Or maybe I've just got really low standards, after all I'm the loon who can quite happily watch a decently-encoded DVD on his 4K TV.

guess you must have missed the Kingsman UHD review. the UHD version does kick the BDs ass pretty good.

"I placed the original Blu-ray on my Top Ten Demo Discs of 2015 because it offered a wonderfully sharp picture (and great sound), but this Ultra HD Blu-ray is even better.

I honestly didn't expect much improvement in perceived resolution, given that this movie was photographed and finished in 2K, and then upscaled for this release. But it's truly there. Check out the longer shots of Eggsy's apartment complex for a direct A-to-B comparison. On the Blu-ray, sharpness trickles off; on the UHD, sharpness travels all the way to the back of the frame. CGI material looks terrific too. Even the opening titles are more resolute.

Next lets chat about the wider color space. This highly stylized universe is perfect for showing off HDR. All sorts of purples and teals and yellows -- particularly during the villain's lair climax -- draw eyes to the world's production design. Bright skies are also a highlight, with lifelike gradients between the Sun and darker areas. Nighttime exteriors also pop with deep black levels, shadow detail, and more engaging color choices.

In terms of flaws, there is some softness, mostly in a few establishing shots (one of London near the opening) and occasional closeups. And some viewers may nitpick about focus around the frame's edges, but this is likely due to the anamorphic lenses used during principal photography.

While not quite the top tier of Ultra HD content (tips my hat at 'Life of Pi' and, hopefully, 'Mad Max Fury Road'), 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' none the less delivers a highly resolved 4K presentation with improved resolution, vibrant colors, and wonderfully clean gradients between brighter and darker objects. It bests the Blu-ray in every way."

I bolded the last part in cased you missed it.

Going from two direct-radiating monopole surround speakers to four dipole/bipole surround speakers makes an incredible difference in your soundfield!!!

WOW! I remember the Philips one. Show me a picture of your TV, I'd love to see this in.

I read it before making that post last night, thanks. Putting aside my personal opinion of HDD and their error-strewn reviews, you must have missed the part where I said "I don't doubt that people are experiencing these incredible epiphanies when they watch HDR/UHD stuff" (bolded in case you missed it), but when a Blu-ray still has the capability to knock me on my ass because it looks so good I find that I'm losing what little interest I had left in UHD Blu.

Sure, from a tech POV I'm still fascinated because I'm a right geek for all dat tech stuff but until I upgrade my TV to a WCG/HDR model (no ETA as of yet) then I'll remain as a "theoretician" whose thoughts don't mean a whole hell of a lot and so I'll leave the gushing reviews to the rest of y'all.

Lucy looks as good, if not better than half the native 4k stuff I have seen

Lucy looks astonishing, it's like looking through a window at times. But certain HDR zealots would probably decree that it's "soft and dull and washed out" now.

RGB full or limit is good for old HDTV don't have technology for current.

Try YCbCr 4:2:2
