Excuse my ignorance but what does handshake mean in this case? Do you mean connection? Do you think the new HDMI 2.0a cable would make a difference? It's meant to carry more support for HDR.

2.0 supposedly handles SDR & HDR separately. I got the highest speed Monster thinking my SDR may look better.. Nahh. But it might with an HDR display. Higher speed, higher bandwidth.. Here is what is on my Monster HDMI box, - 10.2GB/s - 1080p 60hz 16-bit Color - 18GB/s - 1080p 120hz 16-bit Color, 4K 30hz/60hz 8-12 bit Color - 22.5GB/s - 4K 30hz/60hz 8-14 bit Color - 27GB/s - 4K 60hz/120hz 8-16 bit Color I bought the 27GB one. |

Has anyone had signal interruptions watching regular DVDs? I was watching Jackass 2 earlier and had a very brief moment where the screen went black, came back, went black again, and played back fine after that.

Well Samsung are taking the p??? asking for £429 in the uk which is $607 for this player but in the usa its $399 which is £280 come on this is a joke how can Samsung put it at this price £429 in the uk and then put the cost for it at $399 in the usa and think this is right.

Haha for that price they can keep it.
I was so hyped for the launch of uhdbd but having had to wait a couple months before being able to buy anything and reading various owners threads I'm just not convinced it's ready yet. I can't believe I've gone from being day 1 to no chance in hell am I buying anything this year. Really disappointed to be honest. |

For the price they shoulda included a quarter for you to twist off the plastic tab on the remote to insert the lithium battery. Anyway as long as Sanyo doesn't make a UHD player the format should survive a while. ![]() |

Well that's still good as Canada with tax its still works out as £352 and in usa at $499 that works £354 and in usa and if you work out the cost for the uk £429 it works out for Canada it will work out as $811 and in the usa it will work out as $606 so thanks a lot Samsung keep it .

Okay...so where's our equivalent £70 early bird discount for the UK one? £429 is technically taking the piss!
With that in mind it makes the already-attractive £599 Panasonic price even more enticing to me, because if Samsung have the cheek to sell their lightweight cheapy-spec (e.g. no DAC whatsoever) machine for well over 400 beans, then Panasonic should be charging £699 at the minimum for their tank-like deck!! |

I'm using a 10' cable because the 6' is too short. Unfortunately the HDMI ports are on the opposite side of where my equipment is.

Out of curiosity (sorry, haven't been keeping up with the thread if this has been specified elsewhere), has anyone picked up this player and connected it to a 1080P HDTV, and if so, despite such a set not being 4K, do you notice a reasonable difference?
I ask as I'm planning to start picking up 4K/BD combo packs (starting with the Peanuts movie) as I will someday likely have a 4K set up, but it's going to be a few years before I upgrade my main TV (just bought a pricey Plasma about a year and a half ago before they were discontinued). I could see getting a player before getting a new TV, but I'm looking for opinions on if the difference is noticeable. |

Because that's the UHD picture I'm getting, and obviously the smoke isn't supposed to be orange. So literally just turn the player off, unplug it, then turn it back on? That's all I need to try? |

hmm, i dont think so. the scorched picture is with SDR, including from the apps like youtube and menu settings. it made everything look scorched. im not sure i see your issue besides for the different colored smoke. |
