And thanks for showing me the setting you have!

Which color setting are you referring to? There's a few.

The reason I got this Spiderman 2 because reccommended by Blu Ray.com and hi def digest. But surely it did not impress me at all. I do have Sicario but don't have the time to watch yet. Hopefully it will wow me.

Color in the picture mode. If I put 50-55 playing uhd, when I play regular Blu Ray their face like burning.

This player had had a Scorch problem. If that happens, unplug the player.

Sharpness 20? Why would you artificially sharpen a 4K picture? This should be set to 0.

For BDs (Game of Thrones Season 5) umm. I switched from RGB Enhanced to standard.

Watched a few eps. I'm really impressed with the upscaling. I'll likely switch back to RGB Enhanced for 4K as my TV can handle it. Just crushes the blacks too much with standard BDs.

The picture ain't 4K & you should use any & by all means necessary tools to enhance picture quality regardless of film transfer.

Come on mike, we live in a post-Darbee world. If peoples aren't sharpening the shit out of the stuff they're watching then they think they're being gypped. 'Twas ever thus TBH, and having previously worked in electrical retail for far too many years I know of what I speak.

You'd be surprised at how "little" effect 40 units of sharpness applied has on later model TVs or should say ones made in the last 5 years. Now that scale has changed. So if you slide that bar to 0 you are actually decreasing the TV's default sharpness settings.

FWIW, the calibrated sharpness setting that was used in the Shootout for the Sony 940c was 38 (out of 100).

I was selling TVs for a lot longer than that so, again, I know of what I speak. Sure, the effect of the sharpness control depends on how the TV operates, it always has done. (When Sony used Bravia Engine 2 they had to be set at 0 sharpness, but with BE3 onwards they revised it so that halfway (50) was the balancing point between overt softening & sharpening of the image. My point was leaning more towards the average consumer's appetite for MOAR SHARPNESS!! in general, which has taken a higher-end turn with those damned Darbees.

[edit] Using the sharpness pattern on Spears and Munsil I can see drastic changes every 10 points or so with 1080p on my 2014 Sony TV (where 50 is again the optimum position), but in 2160p the TV's processing in general seems to be far less effective re: the Reality Creation, the Motionflow, the sharpness control and so on (I'll be sure to double check the sharpness in 2160p again using the Sony UHD test patterns). Probably due to a lack of processing power to do anything too fancy with 4K images, see also: lack of overscan and lack of 3D conversion when inputting 2160p sources).

Still, that's not a bad thing in my book as it means the 4K image is coming through as unmolested as possible, IIRC it doesn't even apply the regulation roll-off of horizontal chroma resolution to 2160p content as it does to 1080p inputs (when not in Game scene select).

Indeed.

Well my default is 50 - 0 (Sony)

I have mine offset to 62 or +12

Barely a difference but yes in the end I do have mine applied to a degree. I need to be 2 feet from my 65 screen to actually see the increase. Can't speak of those who overkill their sharpness settings or null it entirely. As with every single tv setting, Color is effected with any change to any settings. I have 13 Color options on my Sony by example & that's not even going into the service menu.

So I got my first three 4K movies. Don't have Internet but was able to play them, no problems. Is anyone else being told they need the Internet to play them or something?
