When you stream you get Info Display 1080@60, RGB. When you play blurays you get 1080@24, YCbCr 4:4:4

I think your getting an HD signal(1080i) while streaming and a bluray signal(1080p) with the player.

I don't do any streaming cause where I live I only get 10gb internet which wont even give me an HD signal.

yes I get an HD signal when I stream which is 1080@60 RGB.
When I play blurays I get 1080@24 YCbCr 4:4:4...hence the reason why bluray quality is far superior to that of streaming

Yes the player is much better resolution. I don't even use my tv apps run everything off the player cause it looks much better and in HDR.

And, for what it's worth, some streamed movies have Dolby Digital Plus and the TV apps are strictly old school Dolby Digital. I would much rather have lossless, 24 bit audio like Blu-ray, but there is that.

Thanks,
One thing I do notice is that playing a movie on the Samsung player I have to select bitstream audio in order to receive Dolby atmos sound. But when I use the Vudu app, via the Samsung player I need to select PCM audio in order to get surround sound working.

Do you have the Samsung set up with HDMI audio out in the Bitstream Unprocessed setting?

The literature says it supports Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus lossy audio (besides TrueHD Lossless and pseudo Dolby Atmos), so if your Vudu stream has DD+ you shouldn't have to change anything if the Sammy is bitstreaming.

However... no mention of any DTS, DTS-HD Lossless, or DTS: X decoding whatsoever. Very strange as the bulk of regular Blu-ray discs use DTS-HD Lossless.

Have you had this soundbar for very long? I would suggest you return it and get a separate speaker/sub and receiver based Atmos setup instead, which would probably net you better overall sound quality and add full DTS / DTS: X decoding as well.

Yes I have the soundbar set up in bitstream unprocessed setting. When I switch over to pcm I get excellent surround sound via Vudu app on Samsung player. Also get good sound with the tv Vudu app.

any bluray plays great in bitstream unprocessed, just strange that the Vudu app doesn't get surround sound via the Samsung app

DTS-X is great on soundbar, X-headphone and surround sound.

ATMOS is nothing do. Just only surrounding sound. (Yawn)

There may be an incompatibility with the DD+ stream used by the Vudu service and the Sammy soundbar. Also, without DD+ being decoded by the soundbar you cannot hear any of the Dolby Atmos tracks, though not a large number at the moment, Vudu has to offer.

That is another knock against soundbars and, truth be told, I am really not a fan. Too many compromises.

I don't understand people spend a soundbar. T.V has speaker and behind hide in t.v a virtual surrounds. Just put optical cable or HDMI ARC on t.v.

Knock out!

The soundbar sounds great and so far I'm really happy with it. The only issue I have with it is the no surround sound when running bitstream unprocessed via Samsung Vudu app, but it's easily solved when running pcm. Just have to switch it over to bitstream when playing 4K blurays.

Just wanted to see if anyone knew why or had similar experience.

Dont you think that also depends highly on the TV that we are using?
I have a 2016 4K Oled (HDR and Dolby Vision ready) TV and I still have not found any app on the Samsung that offers as great a resolution

I agree with Filmfreak on the soundbar comments, I had a 5.1 setup at my old house and moved in the last few years and wanted to try a soundbar for a cleaner look, not nearly as nice as a true surround setup. Plus my soundbar cost twice as much as my old 5.1 system, not worth it in my experience. Anyone want a Sony soundbar cheap?

Now I want a 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 system that handles Atmos and DTS:X

I totally agree...Cant even compare any soundbar to the most modest of 5.1 surround sound systems. No matter how fancy a soundbar may get, you are still only getting sound from the front, when a lot of sound effects were mixed to be detected from the sides, from behind, and from above

Sorry to get off topic but are there any quality speakers you guys recommend that combine a standard front or surround with the upward firing speaker? I don't want to mess with ceiling speakers and from what I've read the upward firing speakers work well. I could do ceiling speakers but would have to pay someone to install as the wife wants a clean look without speaker wires everywhere
