Deep Color on in your tv. Deep Color off in your UHD player

If you have an LG TV you need the deep color turned on the Samsung player to get 10-bit color on the TV.

I've tried a lot of file types and formats and the Samsung played pretty much everything.

I haven't found much that it can't play.

Good to know, thank you both. Would have been a deal breaker to me otherwise. Now I just have to actually get a 4k tv, lol

Are we supposed to get hdr mode when playing Marco Polo on Netflix? All I'm getting is Marco Polo 4K UHD but no HDR mode. I have LG Oled 4K tv with hdr/Dolby Vision

I don't get it on marco polo anymore for some reason. I have a Samsung ks8000 and the ubd-k8500 and neither sees the HDR content suddenly. None of the stuff they claim has HDR seems to be coming in as HDR.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Bloodline
Chef’s Table
Hibana
Knights of Sidonia
Marco Polo
Marvel’s Daredevil
Marvel’s Iron Fist
Marvel’s Jessica Jones
Marvel’s Luke Cage
Marvel’s The Defenders
The Do-Over
The Ridiculous Six

Actually I'll take some back, the last two do show HDR and do come through as HDR when streaming on either device.

When I play Marco Polo it says playing dolby vision. I don't get hdr for some of the uhd 4k titles.

Hey all,

If you are considering buying this in the US, the Best Buy here has this player On Sale for $319.99 and the Costco in town has a stack of these in the TV department, and the price is even lower, $299.99.

I don't have one (no 4K tv yet) but these seem like good sales 20% to 25% off.
Wonder what will happen when the Sony model or Oppo show up, and we get possible holiday sales.

One of two things will happen: the Samsung, Panasonic, and Philips will drop in price and stay in the mix, or...

The trio will be priced to move in order to make way for 2nd generation gear. Right now, I can only see that happening if they really want to add things like Dolby Vision support along with the next phase of HDR10 and/or refining their software implementation for UHD Blu-ray.

You get Marco Polo in DV because you are playing the show out of your LG Netflix app. If you play it out of the Samsung player's app it should play in HDR...but it's not

With 1080p blu-ray, it is 8 bit so you want 8 bit. With UHD it is 10 bit so you want 10 bit. If you use Deep Color on the player, it tends to put out everything as 12 bit which can cause both issues and many times that setting is just a gimmick.
Deep Color should be off on the player. Ultra HDMI Deep Color should be on your TV to display 10 bit mode.
There was some confusion when UHD launched with people using it, but only the Deep Color selection on your panel needs to be on for WCG/HDR

So let me rephrase, on pre-2016 models of LG 4K sets, if you want to use the UHD Deep Color setting (i.e. 10 bit color port) you have to have this player's setting on or you cannot even plug the player into that port.

Skin tones look closer to real life with Deep Color off on the player (HDMI Deep Color on the TV). I am using a 2016 4K Oled 55C6, by the way.

Wait I am confused. So because I have a 2016 oled, I should have deep color off on uhd player but on at tv?

LG uses the term Deep Color on their displays for 10 bit processing. They should not have called the mode that term.

Samsung uses Deep Color in the old Blu-ray sense (when that format was to get higher bit depths, but never did).

Soooo... for the Samsung to output the correct bit depths for 8 bit Blu-ray and 10 bit UHD Blu-ray, you need to turn Deep Color off on the player.

So Deep Color on the player is just a gimmick...I was wondering why skin tones looked so overly tan with it on
