I also have the Samsung KS8000, and I leave my UHD player resolution set to Auto. This player doesn't tell you what the resolution is. The only way to know if you're playing a UHD disc is to hit info and see the HDR logo at the top of the screen. You can also go into your picture settings, and you will notice that UHD discs with HDR change the settings, whereas if you play a regular Blu-ray, the settings remain the same. I also have the video of my UHD player going directly into my TV and the audio going out of the second HDMI connection directly to my receiver because my receiver is not HDCP 2.2 compliant. In the TV, I turned UHD HDMI Color to "On" for the input that the UHD player is connected to.
Some titles, I can barely notice a difference, but others, such as Independence Day, Batman v Superman, Man of Steel, and Mad Max, I can tell a difference. Other titles, X-Men Days of Future Past, Ghostbusters 1 and 2, etc., I need to go back and forth between the blu-ray and the UHD disc to really see the difference. It's there, but the difference between UHD and Blu-ray sometimes isn't as noticeable as it was going from DVD to Blu-ray. I think it's taking my eyes time to get adjusted to the benefits of HDR, but this TV up-converts regular Blu-ray titles very well. |

thank you for the helpful info. I do get the HDR logo and the TV does automatically change the settings (which I don't like very much since it adds the soap opera motion effect which I always turn off-- my compromise was to go into custom settings and put blur and judder to low-- that seemed to work) Now here comes the really stupid question--- I notice that everyone mentions HDR... but never 4k resolution. I am getting 2160 resolution yes? I'm surprised that the difference isn't greater in clarity. I do remember how much better my current blu rays looked when I recently got the TV. As a matter of fact I was more impressed with that than I am with this! Perhaps that upgrade in PQ is taking away some of the dazzle of 4k blu ray? Either way, I've only checked 2 4k blu rays so far. I watched LEGEND OF TARZAN last night and checked out scenes from RISEN. The other 4k blu I have is THE SHALLOWS which is supposed to look spectacular so I'll watch that soon. |

The Martian: Extended Cut looks great on UHD Blu-ray as does Sicario (both have native 4k material). Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is very good on UHD Blu-ray as it is from a film scan of the OCN in 4k (brings out the grain, but also the detail). Planet Earth 2 is being released next year and that has a lot of native 4k source video too. Looks like you need to turn BD-Wise off in both the player and the TV (if the TV still has that function). That should stop the display from automatically turning on frame interpolation (which adds the soap opera effect) with HDR content. It also looks like a receiver upgrade is in order. ![]() Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 11-20-2016 at 03:34 PM. |

100% agree with your second sentence, I don't have HDR but I didn't notice much of an increase in PQ with UHD titles, but I did notice how much better blurays looked when I first got the TV. I think the upscaling provided a bump in PQ then the UHD provided a small bump. |

That's odd, what's your connection method? You should get info from each input thru the TV

Hey, since you have my same set-up.... any idea what could be causing the issue I'm having with the TV not giving time and resolution info? Again, on my cable and playstation I can get the time listed in the top right corner as well as the resolution input. On my 4k player.. it shows no info at all.... Just thought I'd get another opinion to see if I have any other options to try.... Last edited by AKORIS; 11-20-2016 at 11:00 PM. |

![]() RockyIII, when you get out of the greybar hotel ![]() ![]() not sure why for you, the Samsung video was bad to your projector. on both of my setups, for hdmi cables I use bluejeanscable's "premium HDMI Certified cables" on every input and output. not saying that's necessarily making any difference, but, I know the cables are some of the few that are certified by the HDMI consortium to full UHD specs via their testing. I just can't believe how good the Phillips UHD player is working for me. I can finally hear the ATMOS/DTS:X audio on my collection of UHD discs. man it's great! so far the UHD titles I've tested: Pacific Rim ATMOS Independence Day DTS:X Independence Day: Resurgence ATMOS Ghostbusters (2016) ATMOS 1080p Blu-ray titles tested: The Last Witch Hunter DTS:X Game of Thrones S5 ATMOS I also tested one Blu-ray audio disc: TrondheimSolistene: Souvenir DTS-HD-MA 5.1 @ 192/24 & LPCM 2.0 @ 192/24 everything I could throw at it, this player played, just wanted to let you guys know that. it's not as fancy as the Samsung, it's not as pretty as the Samsung (or not as oddly shaped in the front either ![]() I now return the Samsung UHD thread back to it's rightful owners! ![]() |

Since my receiver doesn't support 4K, I have my UHD player connected directly to the TV through HDMI input 2, with my audio going from my player's second HDMI output to my receiver. I just popped in UHD disc and when I hit the info button it said "HDR UHD 3840/2160 24p HDMI UHD Color" in the top right of the screen. But it's also upconverting blu-rays. I put in a Blu-ray Disc and it said the same thing, but without HDR at the beginning. Do you have your UHD player going directly to one of your TV's HDMI connections? Here are my picture settings on my UHD player: TV Aspect Ratio: 16x9 BD Wise: Off (although this option is grayed out/disabled) Resolution: Auto Movie Frames (24fs): Auto DVD 24fs Conversion: Off Fit Screen Size: Size 4 HDMI Color Format: YCbCr(4:4:4) HDMI Deep Color: Off My Tv picture settings with a UHD disc in are: Picture Mode: Movie Apply Picture Settings: All Sources Digital clean view: off Auto motion plus: off Smart led: high HDMI UHD Color: on (only for the input I have my UHD player connected to) Dynamic Contrast: off Color tone: warm2 RGB Only Mode: off Color Space: auto |

My cable box, Playstation 3, and Samsung 4k player are directly hooked up to the TV via HDMI cables. I get the info on the cable and playstation, but nothing on the player. My picture settings vary a bit from yours but nothing that should make a difference on these issues.... It's especially bizarre for you to have the opposite issue as me... but the same type of problem. ![]() |
