Best Buy and Amazon both list February 14 as the official release. Best Buy will special order and Amazon will pre-order.

The Samsung 4K UHD Blu-ray Player Model# is UBD-K8500

Price is $399.99 currently through both.

Ready for the launch!

Any one else besides BB, Amazon and Samsung selling the unit? I'm trying to avoid on-line taxes if possible? Not sure if buying from Samsung will add taxes but Samsung will charge your card right away I noticed.

Sorry if this is off thopic but I'd like to ask, wich is the difference between HDR and Ultra High Definition Deep Color? I bought a 4K LG a year ago and it has an HDMI port with Ultra High Definition Deep Color....

Thanks in advance.

Very good point... Not sure what kind of in store promotion they are going to have for the player / or movies. I would imagine that Samsung would want to feature their player connected to at least one of the many 4K sets on display.

Since the release date is getting closer, I'm wondering if Samsung will send out some players to popular tech sites for review prior to availability. Would like to see something on Engadget or CNET.

High Dynamic Range, HDR is a 2016 4K enhancement so no 2014 TVs are HDR capable. A very small select group of high end 2015 TVs are getting upgrades to HDR, but most HDR capable TVs are the high-end 2015 and 2016 models.

You can enjoy any and all 4K streamed and Blu-ray Ultra HD content on your LG TV, but not with HDR so you will get 4K resolution with today's SDR, standard dynamic range.

I also have a LG 4K...I believe the Deep Color setting is for expanded color from other sources eg a PC.

Thumbs down

Disappointing to see that Amazon not only dropped the expected release date for the Samsung but also sent an email stating basically that they didn't know when it would be in stock. Sigh.

Maybe it's just cause they're so many preorders, the first shipment won't cover them all.

so they moved the ship date up to Feb 12. Nice. Movies don't ship till March though right? Gonna suck having a player with no movies right?

1 of 2 is better than none of 2.

Crutchfield gave me a Feb. 17 release date; probably means I'll get it later that week (similar situation with my AVR last year). No taxes, no shipping (at least for Texas).

Samsung tells me the week of 2/22 and that we're included in the very first allocation. It's not much different, but my information is a couple days later.

Other sellers have no date or removed their previously announced first allocation date. Anyway, looks like several authorized dealers will have a good allotment of Samsung's 4K BD player before the Ultra HD BD discs become available. So all is good for the March 1st launch of Ultra HD, HDR, WCG, 10-bit graded with PQ digital gamma on Blu-ray!!

I posted this in another thread. Maybe I can get a better answer here:

So I'm probably going to make the jump right to a UHD player when they come out in March. I have the Samsung UN65JS8500 and a Sony STRDH750 that I purchased around 6 months ago. Do I need to upgrade the receiver? I'm not concerned about Atmos or anything like that. I just want to make sure I'm not going to run into any problems.

It looks like your receiver will not pass the 4k signal because it is not hdcp 2.2 compliant. Luckily, the new Samsung uhd bd player has two hdmi outputs: one for video that you can connect straight to the tv, another for audio that you can connect to the receiver. All you need is another hdmi cord. You can wait to upgrade your receiver later.
