Not meant for uhd. It causes more harm than good.

Then what is it doing on a UHD player if it causes more harm than good? I have it set to auto and have had no problems whatsoever.

LOL, it has been on Blu-ray players forever and been known to do nothing, or more harm than good. Not new...

Like I said, so far I've had no problems with it whatsoever. This is my first Samsung Blu-ray player by the way. Tell me what kind of harm it causes if you don't mind. I'm very curious.

On some equipment it will cause an unnecessary upconversion to 12 bit that can cause video anomalies not in the original signal.

It's an old hold over from the Blu-ray days... it does nothing, but potential harm.

Where do you see the HDR tag on the Amazon app on the Samsung player? I just checked and the only tag I see is UHD.

Yeah. I mean you are taking 8bit depth blu-ray color and outputting it at 12 bit for no reason, and then with UHD you are taking a quality 10bit depth color and outputting 12 bit.

It can cause handshake issue and drop outs as well. IMO it is unnecessary to even leave on auto, just turn it off. If it isn't causing problems in your chain, fine, but cutting it to off is reliable for most.

With SDR blu-ray the output would normally be 1080p/24 ycbcr 444 8 bit, with DC on it would be 12 bit. For HDR it would normally be 4k/24 BT2020 ycbcr 10 bit, with DC on it goes to 12 bit.

UHD is natively 4K/24 BT2020 10 bit, no need to convert it to 12 bit inside a player that may be mucking with the image. Output it at it's native format.

Within the Amazon App. When I select an HDR title and select an episode to view details, HDR appears. When I play that episode it ramps up my backlight so I know it is processing the HDR signal.

I also forgot to point out, if you use auto it may set to ON depending on what your system reports in the handshake, regardless of whether it is good or bad. That is where OFF is the safe choice with that one.

Try Red Oaks. Make sure it has the UHD banner. I see TV-MA 5.1 CC HDR 2015 Comedy

Hope that helps. Also you need the usual I suppose. HDR tv and a high speed HDMI cable

OK question, why is it when I watch a UBD with HDR my picture is dark? What am I doing wrong?

Bump up gamma to +2 or 3.

Also give the dynamic contrast setting a try, it will boost brightness too
