Yes, I also caught this on The Digital Bits:

...Finally today, a little bit of follow-up to yesterday’s column on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray: Samsung’s Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the UBD-K8500, has just officially been certified as Ultra HD Premium by the UHD Alliance. This makes the UBD-K8500 the very first Ultra HD player sold in the States to be so certified. As I said in my column yesterday: “Samsung’s UDB-K8500 is the most affordable, most capable, and most stable entry-level player for any new format I’ve seen yet. At a $399 entry-level price point, Samsung’s UDB-K8500 is a steal. And Samsung should be damn proud of it.” I stand by that, and so apparently does the UHD Alliance.

Good morning everyone. I had a question regarding the enhanced format setting on HDMI. Should i leave the enhanced mode on when viewing 1080p content? I've only had the player a few days.

It doesn't affect it, so you can just leave it on.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care for the HDR? I think the picture actually looks better without it. When I play a Blu-ray in the K8500 I get much more of a WOW factor than I do with the actual UHD movie with the HDR. If anyone can explain to me why this is happening please be my guest!

Since the Amazon app has been updated to support HDR, I watched the pilot of Mad Dogs last night in HDR-it was absolutely STUNNING! The colors we're so vibrant and the picture crystal clear. Can't wait to watch more-the eye candy is truly addicitive!

Honestly, I myself don't see a huge difference from bluray at 1080 on a well calibrated display

How did you get the pilot episode to play in UHD? On my display it shows at 1080 HD

Be sure to scroll down on the app home page all the way down to the UHD area.

Ps post your impression-it's stunning!

I just got a new 65" Samsung KS9000 and the K8500 yesterday. So far I've only watched half of The Force Awakens and it looks great! This is my first LED tv and its crazy how much of a difference the Auto Motion Plus(SOE) makes when its turned on. The only setting I've changed on the UHD player was to go change resolution from auto to 2160p. I probably didn't need to do that but i just wanted to make sure it was at full resolution. Are there any other settings changes on the UHD player that any of you would suggest i make in order to get the best picture quality i can? I mean it already looks great I just don't wanna miss out on anything! haha

Can you guys help? The player won't allow me to set resolution from Auto to 2160. When I try to set it on 2160 the screen goes blank for a few seconds and when the dashboard reappears it is back to Auto

I cant find the UHD option...Do I have to select it first on my amazon account from my computer in order to be able to watch it in UHD on my TV?
When I select the Md Dogs pilot episode directly from the Samsung Amazon app I just get HD 1080

Be sure to enable UHD color on the tvs hdmi input you have the blu player plugged into for watching UHD blus.

Also since you're just watching 1080 content, you can try setting the output resolution on the player to 1080 to see if your tv does a better job of upscaling (just remember to set it back to 2160 after).

Within the players app, on the home screen, simply scroll down for a while. You will find areas clearly labeled for "ultra hd" movies and tv / included and not included with prime.

What is strange is that when I play content in 2160p the player works fine..
But it doesn't let me manually change to 2160 from the video settings

If it is auto, try off and then try to force 2160p.
