Just bought this player on Amazon open box for $286 after tax after my Amazon student discount was applied (have no clue how i received a discount but popped up in the check out window with like $32 off).

Paid $430 for this player as Best Buy 10 days ago. It's def getting returned now and i will stick with the Amazon purchase once it arrives. Def feel better at that price range as i felt i spent a little too much despite being a terrific player. Wallet is more happy now.

If I were you, wait first for the amazon one arrives to check condition and missing parts. I also bought and open box one from bestbuy @ 340 less $50 on certificates points.

What is the most accurate way to find out if what you are watching is truly in UHD or HD? Is the TV, AVR, or BD player display info the most accurate?

The tv will display what exactly it's source rez is, usually with an "Info" type remote button. This assumes you are not doing scaling within the AVR or another device. If you are, the display will not be an accurate representation of what your source device is sending out.

My sources run through my Marantz (video conversion and IP scaler off) to my display, so simply pressing my info button on the LG tells me what the source is sending.

So I can rely on the TV remote for most accurate reading

Yes. But remember, if you want to know what the source actually is sending, then you need to make sure AVR scaling is off or the display will report what the AVR is sending out after it scales.

From these two, which one will do a better job up-scaling? Assuming I can go to any off them and turn it off.

Honestly, I am beginning to think all this up scaling business has little benefit and complicates matters even

Id trust my display over my AVR. But Ive always been of the opinion my AVR is to produce sound not do fancy video stuff.

And keep in mind if you have a 2160p display, and you send it 1080p, it is going to upscale it anyways. That is its job.

Agree. Keep the avr for what it was meant and the TV for what it was meant...no need to over complicating

This is an interesting Sound and Vision magazine review to read. According to the review the Samsung UBD-K8500 also has a USB 3.0 port.

I also bought this player last Saturday from cruchfield Open Box and it came in the mail today and it looks like its brand new and has no missing parts and it was packed like its new and the box had zero damage. I got it for 359.99 with free 3 day shipping.

Any thoughts on X Men: DoFP in 4K?

When i hit pause on my 8500 it will only pause the movie for a few seconds then resume on its on. Does anyone else have that problem? Am i doing something wrong or is that normal?

Warners discs also resume from cold. But you're correct about Lionsgate movies: I had Expendables 3 and there was no resume feature in any way, shape or form. LG cheaping out as usual.

I've not experienced that and I've paused movies for 15-30 minutes at times. No issue here.

I think pausing the player for such a long time can cause unwanted strain on the device, I would rather be safe and just click the main menu button if I know It's gonna be more than just 1-2 minutes
