I picked up The Revenant 4K today, i noticed in really dark scenes, the screen got really bright then really dark. Especially when there is subtitles. I have a Sony XBR850C 55 inch and was curious if there are any settings on the t.v. or player that could resolve this issue. Thanks in advance.

Started watching it today. I experienced no issues. Audio and picture were great and in sync.

Can anyone tell me if they have experienced the same thing I have in that the PQ from the Blu-ray disc looks better than the actual 4K UHD disc? I can't figure out why. Is there some settings that I'm not doing right or what? Any input on this will be much appreciated!

I don't know the model of your display or receiver. That would help.

I have the Sony XBR55X850C and no receiver, just a Yamaha soundbar.

In the player... turn OFF Deep Color. Resolution to Auto or 2160p. 4:4:4 chroma out. Standard video setting with all things set to 0 (can only change this when a disc is playing).

In the TV... turn ON Enhanced HDMI in the settings.

Make sure your HDMI cable can handle 18 Gbps signals.

Send the video to the display on HDMI Port 1 and audio on HDMI Port 2.

Turn on bitstream out on HDMI Port 2.

I'm not going to get started on the soundbar part... I detest them and you lose a great deal of sound quality, but it's your choice.

That's a start. We have to wait for UHD and HDR pro calibration discs for the rest.

FYI, if you play the UHD disc with the Samsung player connected to a non-4K TV you still get a better picture than if you played the regular BD format

As someone considering purchasing this player with a 4k TV in a few months, but still wants to keep a 1080p projector connected (looking at receivers with dual HDMI outputs), can you or anyone else who is maybe running a similar setup elaborate more on how this works? Does the receiver itself downscale from 4k to 1080p, or is the player set to 1080p? Also, would it be possible for the player to auto-detect which output on the receiver (still researching which model, sorry I can't be more specific) is on and output the correct resolution if that is the way to do it?

Appreciate any help anyone can give on this!

I have a question that bothers me: if I have a non-HDR T.V. set, should I set Deep Color off? My set has a 10 bit panel.

Having a bit of trouble with audio out with this... I have the player connected directly to my TV via the main port (connected to an appropriate 4K port on the TV) and audio works fine coming from the TV. I have the audio out (SUB) connected directly to my receiver- however, no audio will play. Is the audio port reliant on a 4K capable HDMI cable as well or am I likely having issues with the receiver itself (setting perhaps)?

TV:Samsung JU7000
Receiver: Yamaha HTR-3065
BD: Samsung UBD-K8500

sorry if this is a bit vague.

The player should always have Deep Color set to OFF.

You have to drop the audio output portion from HDMI port 1 and have it set to HDMI port 2.

One or the other.

I disagree with this. I leave it on and the picture quality seems to be more vibrant. Not sure why all the 10 bit color haters are out there, but I think it adds to the picture quality.

It unnecessarily adds conversion steps in the video chain... from 10 bit to 12 bit and at the display from 12 bit back to 10 bit.

It's a hold over from regular Blu-ray that was never implemented or implemented properly. It has no real bearing on UHD Blu-ray.

If you don't like the colors... that's what the picture setup menu in the TV is for.

So the answer to the original question would be, "preference" then, not "always off". IMO
