My receiver was set to "direct" (no conversion), but it looks like the culprit was the UBD-K8500. I went into the video settings and turned off the "DVD 24Fs" option. This seemed to correct my issue.

I'm thankful for the dual-hdmi outs on the 8500, my Onkyo 3030 has a HDCP 2.2/HDMI 2.0 port however it is not 2.0a and will not pass HDR. I love the receiver, got it in Feb. and don't plan on upgrading it anytime soon.

I wonder how many K8500 units Samsung has sold, just checked a few retailers they are on backorder again. I bought mine from Sears almost 2 weeks ago and they 2-day shipped it for me.

Hi all,

during these past months I've been reading as much as I could on the UHD forum and I think I want to buy a Samsung KS 7000 in combination with the K8500 tonight, so that I can play with this set over the weekend.

I've read ~40% of this thread and I remember further up a discussion about HDMI cables. Which ons should I buy for hassle-free performance? Samsung advises Monster Cables?

Is there a quick guide somewhere on these pages to get the tv and the player up and running?

Thanks in advance, and thanks to all the contributors of this forum, I've learned so much during my visits.

Regards, Peter

Any high speed HDMI cable will work.

There's a lot of info in here on player settings and setup, some diff model TV's too but yeah it's a big thread.

I'm using my player to watch LOTR's this weekend!

Thta's great, but you won't get anything different than if you were to play the disc on any other $40 BD player. UHD display is where this Samsung player shines

Just throwing it out there, I got my replacement remote control from the ebay listing mentioned a few pages back and ****ing love it. The only problem I've had with this player has been once or twice with it freezing up having been paused for 20-30 minutes and the remote being too small. Now that one is remedied, I feel like every cent was spent wisely on this thing. I absolutely love it!

If you have to pause for 20-30 minutes you might as well just hit "Home" and when you get back to it hit Scene Selection to watch from where you left off

I do have a UHD display, in fact I watched the first one last night and it's never looked so good. I did make a few picture adjustments I found on this thread when I bought the player and they helped.

I was referring to playing LOTR on the Samsung UHD player. It won't look any different than playing the same LOTR bluray on any other conventional Samsung or Sony BD player

I do think FOTR looked a little better than the last time I watched it on my Sony 6500 player, but I attribute that to some display settings I changed.

After watching Sicario and both Ghostbusters in UHD(still need to watch ID4), and comparing to their bluray discs included, I can't imagine the LOTR series looking much better in UHD. I will still buy day one tho, and maybe I will have an HDR display by that time.

This is $300 now here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/331847207977

I've read that these players are manipulating the image. I've also read there has been some reliability issues. Any comments on that? I really don't like Samsung products but this pricing seems pretty good. It sounds like the Xbox One S will not bitstream so I may not have much of a choice.

Thoughts?

I bought this player since it was the only available choice, things that I hate about it: issues with HDMI handshake to TV (constant sometimes when you select an option on the menu of a UHD Blu-Ray) I get the dreaded no input message on my screen. The remote stinks for a 500 player. The lack of HDR on the Netflix app makes no sense. Some blu-rays skip on the player if there is a slight fingerprint on the disc (most other players don't do this.) As soon as Sony/Panasonic/LG or someone else other than Philips put out a player I'll be packing this player back up in the box and selling it on craigslist or ebay and buying the competition's player.

Well, that's good enough to wait.

I don't have a 4K projector or HDCP 2.2 receiver yet anyhow.

For longer runs with projectors etc they make active cords that "forward" the signal. NEVER use them for short runs; they can cause trouble.
