Of course with your current setup maybe you have no reason to play bluray on your OLED so the point is moot.

For me, I choose either 2160 or 1080 resolution on player depending on disc
Bored job switch up, down, up and down. LOL

Damn just give auto!

It's new from when they added support for 444 chroma with 4K60p video. You have to enable the new feature by switching to HDMI 4K mode 1. The default is mode 2 and will not output 444. I suppose they made it optional to avoid possible incompatibility issues.
When you play a UHD disc on your non-UHD TV, Do you get a message suggesting you to use a UHD capable device to play movie, before the movie starts playing?

Auto enables the player to upscale, not the TV.We want our TV to do the upscaling.
In the case of the projector, since the projector does no upscaling, then either resolution (Auto or 1080) will do the job

Yes but the projector does not have 4k resolution so your not getting an upscaled image from the player, your just getting a standard 1080p signal. It's only upscaled if the display device has 4k resolution, does that make sense?

So that means:

resolution 1080 when playing UHD disc on projector and 2160 when playing UHD disc on 4K Oled
and
resolution 1080 when playing HD disc on either projector or 4K Oled

Does it make sense?

All you have to do for your setup is choose Auto setting I believe. It will select max resolution for the connected device, so for your OLED it will select 2160 and for your projector it will select 1080.

Now, if you choose to play a bluray on your OLED tv, the Auto setting will force the player to upscale so it's better to go ahead and change the setting to 1080 so TV does upscaling

The player needs a 'Native' setting so it automatically chooses the correct resolution based on the disc playing.

We also need an Info screen on the player, did the firmware update do anything?

What if I play HD bluray on the projector? Auto or 1080?

I thought your Denon AV/r has HDMI dual outputs : ARC and Monitor2

Monitor2 will change 4K to 1080p working. I know. You need setting.

Denon manual pages.175

Which is your Denon AV/receiver ??
