The update is also available for the European version of this player. I've updated mine but I haven't seen anything different so far. Maybe it's new ACSS keys.

New to this thread. Haven't read anything but I just bought this player today. Considering I had no other options really for a 4k player. What's the general consensus on this player? Is it a decent player?

More than decent, except for the remote

Hey everyone, please don't make me read all 184 pages of this thread.

Watching 4K discs on this player really feels no different than when I watch blu ray discs on my old blu ray player. I have it paired with a Samsung UN85JU7100 and using this HDMI cable. Am I expecting too much? What am I missing here?

Turn off Deep Color in the player. Use Standard picture mode.

Turn on HDMI UHD Color in the TV. Picture setting on Movie. Color space to Auto.

Your TV does not have a 10 bit panel or wide color gamut reproduction, so it is lacking in some respects.

Some people cant even tell the difference when viewing movies in 3D and they feel it's exactly the same as 2D but with glasses on. We dont all perceive things the same way.

I think part of the problem is improper setup and inadequate displays. These cheaper models don't really give you the full UHD impact for various reasons.

I only have X-Men and SpiderMan 2 but I can tell the difference immediately. Not the same as going from DVD to bluray, or from 2D to 3D, but a more subtle difference in things like lights flashing, fires blowing, reflections on metal objects and armours

HDR has been more hype than anything else. It was touted as being the next big thing, and it may be once it's standardized and movie studios fully understand what to do with it. UHD blu's are hit and miss. With way more misses than hits. Unfortunately, the best looking HDR material are from the demos...

HDR and 4k uhd are still early in the game, I think it'll get much much better as time goes on. As early adapters, I think we need to cut them a little slack.

Decent tv, but doesn't have the horsepower to take advantage of what is on that disc.(color space, precision, brightness). The differences while small are there, you just may not be able to notice them. It should be noticeable but not super impactful.

I couldn't get past the $139 cable

What I noticed when I viewed a high end HDR display at Best buy compared to my 8 bit SDR Sony was how much the colors popped and the brighter picture. Also how the image went from really deep blacks to really bright scenes, but mostly how the colors stood out. I immediately realized what was being said here is true, that the resolution increase is just part of the equation.

I'm gonna save up and wait for now just because I really like blurays on my current TV and I only have 5 UHD's so not a lot of content anyways. But I'm drooling for a sweet HDR display!

Thanks! Will try that next time I watch a 4k disc.

From DVD to Blu ray, I can spot the difference a mile away. I can't even watch DVD's anymore. Maybe I was just expecting 4k to be the same. If it truly is that subtle, I might have a hard time telling the difference no matter what I try.

So far I've only watched Deadpool, gods of egypt, and Batman v Superman on 4k. BvS was by far the worst in picture quality, IMO.

Thats sad. Costs so much money and it still doesn't have what it takes.

My Bravia Sony 8bit. I noticed brighter to deep black about 3 sec. Slowly..

UHDTV 10bit, brighter to deep black about 0.001 sec. Faster!
