With passive 3D I have no choice but to watch from 8 feet away at least

Am I the only one that finds the player's upscaling to be better than my TV's. I have a Vizio P50-C1 and the image looks so much softer when I set the resolution to 1080p.

I only have a 1080p set at the moment but I agree that if I sat further than what is recommended I get way more depth out of 3d movies.

No, you're not alone, I also find the Samsung upscaling better than that on my Philips 4K TV set.

I have a 4K Oled and the picture looks more natural when i let the TV do the upscaling

It's a smoother cleaner image, or at least that's the way I would describe it. That's the way it's supposed to look tho, you get more detail if it's upscaled by the player but there are side effects as well.

Of course it's subjective, but I would rather let the TV do the upscaling

Same concept as with AVR upscaling...If I let me Denon receiver upscale the picture is less natural-looking. The cleaner, less processed signal you get into your TV, the better

I don't really understand the pro's/con's between the two tho

With active 3D you have more leeway with viewing angles. With passive 3D you need to be perfectly positioned or you can experience crosstalk. But passive 3D is more comfortable and less strenous on the eyes

I can watch passive 3D for hours without eye strain. The other advantage is that passive 3D doesn't render such a dim/dark image, so everything remains bright and clear

Yes your right my 3D is a little darker image, altho Jurassic World and Avatar have nice clean picture. I also only watch 3D at night when my room is dark, that helps as well.

My Sony is active 3D so I know what you are talking about. With my Oled I can go longer watching 3D because the picture is plenty bright and the glasses are gentle on my eyes. With the Sony I always watch 3D for no more than 30-45 minutes at a time

Active def as better viewing angles. With passive, you need to be sitting level with the TV and looking at it straight on. But active glasses usually give me a headache where passive doesn't.

My new Oled is my first passive 3D. I've owned 3 previous active 3d TVs. And I always assumed passive was worse but man was I impressed with the passive 3D on this TV. It actually looked like the menu was protruding past my soundbar!
