I watched the Blu-ray of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban this weekend on the Samsung player. It looked amazing! It is crazy to see how much better this works than my Xbox One or my PS4 at playing movies.

This device was specifically built to play movies, so I sure hope so😊

It launched at 400 and I think the lowest deals I've seen are 350 so that's pretty darn good.

Default Is there a setting to make it default to 3d YES

I have regular seen one dumb problem with the k8500. When I put a 3d disc into the player and don't have the remote ready to respond it will put a message up on whether to show the disck in 2d or 3d. If I don't get the remote fast enough it will default to 2d. And for many disc the message will come up that I 3d player and TV are required to play the disc.

I couldn't find a setting to make it automatically assume yes as the response. Some of the settings would cause the image to show as if it was a top and bottom 3d but not as a normal 3D image.

UPDATE: They have fixed this with a firmware update. Now if you set the setting I mentioned above, it is shown correctly as Full Blu-ray 3D.

So I ended up taking a chance on getting this refurbished from Groupon. Came in yesterday. It was sealed in original box and looks just like new. Tried two movies that I have, and it played flawlessly. So if your interested in this player, getting it from Groupon for 200 is a great deal

I had constant audio dropouts on mine too. The only way I could correct it was to change the audio output settings on the K8500 from Bitstream to PCM. While watching in PCM I did not have any issues / dropouts and quality was fine. My receiver is a Yamaha Aventage A760 and I'm just using HDMI 1 for both audio / video.

*I have never had any other problem other than this disc (UHD, BD, DVD).

I think this is an issue related to the Samsung/receiver connection. I have a Denon and never experienced such problems.

I have a Marantz 8802 and he has a Yamaha. Some other people in the IT thread also said they had the issue with this player. Might be that you have the only receiver it works on

I will only comment once we find at least one Denon owner with the same issue.
For example, when I had a Vizio TV I would get video and audio drop outs randomly. Now that I have an Oled tv that doesn't happen anymore. So the culprit was not the Samsung player or the Denon AVR, but the tv

I'm a lot happier now that I have a remote that actually works the FF/rewind functions properly, but this player does seem to have a few quirks.

I have a feeling I will be buying a diff player and TV next year when/if Dolby vision becomes relevant

It does have a few quirks but I just bought it as a bridge until I get the OPPO.

Aside from the sh-tty remote, it seems to have issues with my Samsung 65JS9500 TV. For some reason, the TV switches to the TV input from HDMI4 where I have the receiver hooked up. Not a big deal as I can just switch the input setting back to HDMI4, but when I do, the K8500 automatically turns on.

I have no idea if this problem stems from the TV or the player(or maybe both), but it's a real pain in the ass. There are also other nagging issues like the Netflix app occasionally freezes up and I have to reboot the player. There also used to be the recurring signal error where the player said it couldn't play a disc in 4k and would revert to 1080p. Thankfully I haven't seen that issue in a long time, so it must've been fixed by a firmware update.

BTW, I love the player overall. Especially for a first gen device on a brand new video format. But it has had its share of glitches.

If you're still having the former problem, you need to turn off HDMI control (CEC) and Anynet+ on the player and the TV.

I could've sworn I did, but I did do a factory reset on the player after that defective firmware update a few months ago. So maybe I forgot to turn it off again.
