It would drive me crazy to have all these 4K titles and no player to watch them with...But that's me

Manufactures usually make their announcements at CES in early January, with the new models on the self within a month or two after.

Does anybody know on the Samsung JS8500 TV can you leave HDMI UHD Color on for everything such as cable TV, reg blu ray, video games? Will it mess up the colors or anything else?

Costco is now selling 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray movies, and they even have this Samsung Blu-ray player for $229 and include a free HDMI cable.

I haven't had any issues with HDMI UHD Color left on... at least with Blu-ray's and DVD's played on the Sammy player. I use a separate HDMI input for cable TV and HDMI UHD Color is left off since none of the programming is 10 bit.

"Earlier this year, shortly after the release of the first Ultra HD (UHD) Blu-ray Disc player from Samsung, I wrote about the challenges of getting the player's full-bandwidth video signals to travel over longer distances in “UHD Blu-ray vs. HDMI: Let the Battle Begin”. Unfortunately, nearly 8 months later, consumers whose displays are more than 15 feet away from the Samsung UBD-K8500 are still in a pickle when it comes to choosing the proper HDMI cable to get the menu screen to properly come up on screen."

Best Buy will have this player for $200 during Black Friday weekend. Xbox One S will be $250. I will be purchasing a Sony 65 inch 850d and Sony HTNT5 soundbar soon. I want the best quality but will there really be a difference between these two players for me?

There are some discs the Xbox One S will not play right now and MS still hasn't come up with a firmware fix. It will be a while until MS has an audio bitstream patch and they don't seem to have that as a top priority because it is first and foremost a gaming machine.

Costco will have the Samsung player for $189 with their lifetime return policy in case of defect.

I cannot in good conscience recommend purchasing a soundbar. No ifs ands or buts about it. You want sound quality? Don't get a soundbar. You're just wasting your money. I was looking at the Sony HTNT5 specs and I was shaking my head. They want $799 for that?

Save up. Get a surround receiver; preferably one with Dolby Atmos and DTS: X support. Get decent speakers and take the time to learn about proper placement. Get a decent true subwoofer; not a bass "module." Don't have a huge budget? Buy a little at a time and build into a superb audio system.

Great sound is 60% of the experience.

Appreciate the response and agree that i wont get the best sound experience with the soundbar. I looked at a 5.1 Klipsch setup but its priced out of my budget right now. I am able to get the NT5 for a price extremely south of the $800 msrp which makes it a no brainer buy. Eventually I will move the soundbar to my game room when I get a surround sound setup.

I don't think it'll matter much with a TV that has an IPS panel and isn't built for hdr in the 1st place.

I would take a look at the Samsung HW-K950. It just dropped MSRP $500 and it was still getting good reviews at the 1500 price point.

That Sammy soundbar doesn't support multi-channel DTS encoded tracks, only stereo!

I was thinking about picking up this Blu Ray player for Black Friday. Are there any known HDR, disc reading, or any other issues when it's paired with a Samsung 4K TV? I have the Samsung KS 8500.

The only issues are Crouching Tiger, Sicario, and Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

However, those are random disc manufacturing problems, not necessarily an issue with the player itself.

I bought a nice(and expensive) Sony soundbar a few years ago after owning a cheap HTIAB with 5.1 surround. I was immediately disappointed and felt the cheap setup I had before was much nicer with a more immersive experience, and half the price!

There are other options for a basic 5.1 true surround system at the same price as these soundbars out there. I ended up buying a nice 5.1.4 system and it's night and day better than the soundbar. To me the audio system was a much nicer upgrade than the 4k tv I bought.

It's the interaction with the display. It's how the display maps DCI-P3 data within a Rec 2020 wrapper to the Rec 2020 gamut... or doesn't.
