I went from a Samsung 50 inch 1080p Plasma to this 65 inch 4k TV. So far, I've been incredibly impressed with the up scaled blu ray movies I've been watching on this display.

I watched "The Martian" trailer on a blu ray disc of a different movie and it looked spectacular. Being just the trailer I was very excited ( I have not seen The Martian full movie yet). I was excited to try out a Samsung 4K player so I pre-ordered it along with the actual Martian movie on 4k.

I know that I will just have to judge it for myself when I actually can watch it, but with everything I'm reading online about HDR and its benefits along with added resolution I'm wondering if I can tell even before seeing it myself if it will be worth it. The JU7100 I have DOES NOT support HDR as far as I read so my question I ask everyone is WILL I NOTICE a greater improvement over what I've seen with regular blu ray's upconverted? Is HDR THAT instrumental for your display in order to enjoy the full benefits? Various people seem to have different opinions on this. I should also mention that I've also been impressed with 4k video through You Tube; this is streaming and yet my jaw managed to drop but of course, its a matter of what source was used to capture the content so I digress.

Good news is if I'm not convinced once I get the player and movie I can just return the player and keep the movie (it has a regular blu ray included) so in the end I'll be covered without monetary loss. Like I said, with how impressed I am already with regular movies on this display I'm initially skeptical about how much better 4K movies will look like.

That's great news for those of us hoping to get the player by the end of next week (or early the week after). Hopefully Fox Connect will ship out the discs around the same time or at least before 3/1.

I went ahead and emailed in for a preorder with VE. Now that my new display will be here on the 8th, most places are tough to get in the first shipment.

If it changes your settings that means your set is decoding hdr. How did it look?

Unfortunately he does not have a 4k tv. But he's able to confirm that his 1080p tv does work with the 4k discs. He says improvements from using the better quality 4k discs is very apparent many times throughout the uhd discs he's watching .

He was also able to confirm atmos/dtsX still comes through on those uhd discs on his 1080p tv.
Uh oh.....time to get the Samsung player?

Haha! With the PQ this TV still puts out i'm not really in a rush to change out everything i have for 4K yet. But if 4K movies really do look that much better than the same bluray on a 1080p TV, why not take advantage?

It'll be like giving the TV more juice to show it's stuff.

I'll have to test this myself of course to see if it's really worth it.

Yep they go on sale tomorrow, at all 4 of the locations. the LA location is already telling people that they are sold out already!

they will also be carrying a few UHD discs too.

But some interesting news, a reviewer who got his hands on one is saying that there are options to toggle HDR and WCG on/off!
