Only 4K non-HDR sources@60

What content can we try in 4K@60?

Samsung 4K new UHD Blu-ray Player UBD-K8550 or UBD-600 will coming next year or so.

Advanced technology and Dolby Vision HDR chips in new UBD-K8550 or UBD-600 is improving than original Samsung UHD player.

who know?

I'm having an issue getting the player to remain stable on certain HDMI outputs. I have a Sony 55X7000D TV, which has an enhanced format option for high-quality HDMI formats such as "4k 60p, 4:2:0 10bit, 4:4:4, 4:2:2" for HDMI ports 2 & 3. I have been trying to get this player stable on these ports, but the picture keeps coming off an on with the TV banner displaying the image resolution coming back each time as though I am switching to the port for the first time. Sometimes, I don't even get this far, I just get static on the screen. The players is fine and stable in both HDMI 1 & 4, which both support (like 2 & 3) HDCP 2.2. Is there anything I can try to get it to work on the 'enhanced' ports? Sorry and thanks in advance

1. Turn off Deep Color in the player. Turn off 24 fps conversion. Leave 24 fps output on auto.

2. If that doesn't work, keep those settings, but your culprit might be your cables. Monoprice Certified Premium 18 Gbps HDMI cables seem to be ones that have enough bandwidth pass-through.

Deep color was off and movie frame was set to auto. I thought that if an HDMI cable was fast enough for 4K in general (like on the other ports), it should be fast enough for this? Is there a way to test how fast an HDMI cable is? Thanks again

It's the bandwidth and the cable's ability to send said data. Not all HDMI cables are capable of sending all the 4k video data necessary for a robust, stable signal, which can cause issues with device handshaking. Even very expensive cables claiming 4k compatibility are not able to pass the signal.

That's why I mentioned a particular cable model and brand that has been certified by the HDMI board for 18 Gbps data rates. The Samsung maximizes that bandwidth with the signal it outputs.

The non enhanced ports on your TV are more than likely not full 18 Gbps rated. There are layers of 4k data "quality" and not all chips can handle all those layers. Everything from the cables to the processing chips have to work in concert or you will have problems.

DV discs are coming. Though, you need both a capable TV and a capable player.

The best displays will have true 12 bit panels as DV is 12 bit, which might cost a pretty penny for a while. They're still shaking out their 8 bit panels and sometimes it's hard to know if you even have a true 10 bit panel.

I have a 2016 LG Oled TV, but I'd be crazy to buy a new DV player and then wait two years more to have a substantial amount of DV content available. I rather wait this out a little while longer. Plenty of HDR UHDs right now to keep my Samsung UHD player busy

I'm 95% positive the husband got me this for Christmas. Probably will only need an HDMI cable upgrade, I think.

Anything else I need to know so I can fire it up on Christmas day?

If he did get me this, then I'm pretty sure he'll have gotten me the 4k Bourne movies as well.

Which display are you currently using and how old are your HDMI cables?

Merry Early Christmas to you!

Don't expect miracles from the Bourne discs. Universal, as always, dropped the ball, especially on the first film (can you say: the ancient 1080p consumer master slightly tinkered with and slapped on a 4k disc?). The added benefit of the set is the DTS: X tracks... if you have a DTS: X capable receiver/pre-amp and the requisite extra overhead speakers.

It can't be any worse than Suicide Squad in HDR

It's a different kind of bad, but still... bad. The trouble is, Universal could have gone back to the original film elements and scanned them at 4k, but they chose the lazy and cheap route. In fact, they could have done it with all the original titles since they were shot on film, not digital. Yes, the others came from 2k DI's (except the latest), but they originated from negatives.

Suicide Squad was just poorly photographed and mastered.

I have a 65" Vizio M series. No HDR, though. I do plan on upgrading to another display in the next year or so. When Dish Network hooked us up a few months ago, we got one of their 4K HDMI cables. The other HDMI cables are about a year old.

I'm a huge Bourne fan. I know Universal isn't the most consistent on their restorations. If he got me these movies, I'll know to temper my expectations.
