If you like your player upscaling probably best to just keep it at Auto tho, I am curious tho if the player upscaling affects the 3D signal at all. I would switch back and forth myself. |

It seems like 1080p resolution will work just fine like Auto does, so that we wont have to keep changing resolution everytime we go from HD to UHD and back |

To get the better picture of course, 2160 vs 1080, HDR and all

By the way, apparently Samsung was telling people at CES 2017 that certain 4K players currently available on the market could be firmware updated to support HDR10+. It's reasonable to assume that they were referring to their only available player on the market at the time - the K8500. Would be interesting to see if this player does receive HDR10+ support. It would also imply that Samsung plan to firmware update their TVs to support dynamic metadata through HDMI.

I bet it will play in HDR jsut like it does in Auto or in 2160. The only time it will play a UHD disc in 1080 is when and only when the 'display' is a 1080 only display. But as long as this is hooked up to a HDR display it will output in HDR no matter what resolution you set.
Only the Oppo 203 has the capability to strip HDR on a HDR display |

No it will play at resolution you choose, you don't want 1080p when your playing a UHD on your high end 4K OLED right?
Your missing my point tho, I would keep at Auto if you don't want to F with it but it *might* be messing with 3D signal cause it usually upscales at that setting. Check your display info next time you play 3D to see what it says it should be 1080/24p |

Auto* should display video at the maximum capabilities that the display can handle. 1080p output resolution will output everything from DVDs to UHD BDs at 1080p. If the display is capable of higher resolutions then it will upscale to it's native resolution. *The are a few TVs that for some reason don't like been set on Auto, so you have to force the higher resolution. There are also TVs that will go out of range when player's are forced into a higher resolution (but that's usually TVs lower than 1080p, UHD BD players shouldn't go out of range on 1080p sets as they get forced to display 1080p as they're not HDCP 2.2 compatible). To get the best from your UHD BDs you want 2160p or Auto, but just check that Auto is pumping out 2160p and not anything else. Some player's also have an Original Resolution option, so DVDs, BDs and UHD BDs get outputted to the TV and that will upscale them when necessary. That option is useful when your TV has better scaling than your player. |

I'm aware of that. I was referring to the possibility of the K8500 receiving support as well, in addition to the 2016 and later TVs being firmware updated to support dynamic metadata over HDMI. It seems like a realistic possibility.

I'm having a major lip sync issue with this player, but ONLY streaming via my media server. And the only thing that helps AT ALL is my a/v delay setting on my Onkyo 605. Changing the delay on the player itself has absolutely no effect, even at 250ms. The problem is, the Onkyo only delays to 100ms, and that's STILL not quite enough. Any help?
![]() Blu-rays are absolutely in sync, no matter what I have the player delay set for. It appears to have no effect whatsoever. |

Put it this way if you have a spare 1080p set around and set the BD player to output 480p instead of Auto or 1080p the quality isn't going to be anywhere near BD quality. Even after the TV upscales to its native 1080p. To get the most of your UHD BDs you want to have the player output at 2160p (which in most cases Auto will do) and you'll want your TV to take advantage of the HDR and wider colour gamut on the discs. |

You need a diff player with Native or original resolution option like Chip75 mentioned, then whatever you pop in the player will pick the right resolution.
Since the Auto option selects native 3D signal just use that, but I def prefer 1080p for blurays on my setup |
