Depends on content, right now it's not but if Disney starts doing DV then hells yeah I would def want support if I was buying a new TV

Good review but is it fair comparing an HDR10 disc to DV streaming content? I don't know maybe it is just asking

so, I've had this player for half a year or so..... and I just cannot get a satisfying picture for 1080p blu rays....

4k discs look great, but my regular blu rays seem to have an uptick in grain that's not apparent at all on my secondary Sony blu ray player.

I've tried playing with the settings a million times and cannot get anywhere.
The player is set to "auto" for resolution.

I was watching BATES MOTEL Last night, the brightly lit scenes look spectacular, but any scene with lower to dark lighting has a "noisy" look on people's faces close-up. It's like a mixture of grain and color that's up too high which creates a look of bleeding color grain.. does this make sense to anyone? My color on my Samsung 8000 TV is set to 50, and to "native"...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to buy a higher end 4k player when there's more options available (hate the remote of this player) but for the meantime I'd sure like to play the vast majority of my collection on this player....

It never will because Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision and their players and TVs don't have the processing power.

Your upscaling thru the player with the auto setting(chooses highest resolution your tv supports), try changing to 1080p resolution and let the TV do the upscaling see how you like it.

I see the same thing when I play blurays in auto or 2160p resolution so I use 1080p myself.

thanks, I'll try that when I get home from work tonight...

Not crazy about having to switch the setting every time I put in a 4k disc, but I can live with that if it works..

I'm assuming you mean the Samsung KS8000? If so, do you have "HDR+ Mode" enabled? Try turning it off if that's the case. I have two KS8000s, and they both tend to have a fuzzy look on people's faces in dark scenes when I have that feature enabled. I'm guessing what I call fuzzy is what you're saying is "noisy", which noisy is probably a better description for it. If this is the issue, the drawback of course is that you'll lose the pseudo-HDR effect on non-HDR sources, which to me having enabled is worth the noisy faces.

Color Space should be set to Auto.

thanks guys, all the work and attempts to get results and I just need to remember to ask in this site!

I haven't switched color to "auto" yet as I'm now back at work and reading these posts but....

I switched to 1080p (and I don't have HDR on for non-4k discs ever) and I am blown away at the difference!!

The picture is clean, without noise, full of vibrant color and quite frankly the PQ looks damn near close to my 4k discs

I watched a cheesy shark flick called BAIT with my son last night and it reminded me of the "pop" that my 4k blu ray of THE SHALLOWS has!

I still need to test some other blus of course but this really seems to be the answer so far...

I think my long term plans will be to eventually get a higher end 4k player and then use the Samsung as my back up player permanently set to 1080 resolution.

thanks again everyone!

You know you will forget to switch back to Auto next time you will play a 4K title, yes?

Cool, glad you got it working. The funny thing is, and assuming that you do have the KS8000 (which would mean we have the same series TV & player), mine looks and works perfectly fine without having to set to 1080 (this is on both my KS8000's and both K8500's). Although I am running the video directly to the TV and sound via the HDMI audio-only output on both units as my preamps don't support HDCP 2.2.

Cool glad that helped, it needs a native resolution option for sure. For me I usually check the info screen real quick at the start of movies so I'll catch it there if I forget but really no big deal to change.

I might, but then again I've also accidentally put in the dvd copy instead of the blu ray before and was trying to figure why the PQ was so unimpressive!

I just tried to download it and i got an error message, then I went back and tried again and it was gone. I'm currently on 10.11. Did you mean a newer update?
