Do you know if SnipeUout on AVS Forum has access to the M-Go Vidity content? There appear to be differences in the image quality when he plugs a demo UHD HDR stick into the player or the Samsung JS8500 display.

Why do people have long loading times? Of course, I would never hook a player up to the internet. Is it the net connection that causes those awful loading times? I'd be pretty PO'd if a BD took 20 seconds to load.
IF it's not connected to the Internet then it would be rather difficult to use the streaming apps. I've always had my BD players connected to the internet. It's never caused me any issues. And I've owned over two dozen since 2006.

MGO on the k8500 isn't currently showing the hdr movies. Might need mgo to send out a newer version to the player.

I bought a launch BD player in June 2006. And it was promptly returned within a couple weeks. (And got the 20GB PS3 later that year for BD playback) Fortunately the K8500 doesn't seem to be anything like that Sammy BD player from 2006.

And that was a new tech where this is a new version of tech that's been on the market 10 years.

Indeed. If they're anything like how the apps operate on Sony TVs and Blu-ray players then they're running on different platforms which is why they can't just chuck the code for the TV app into the player and be done with it, it needs its own version to be written for that line of hardware though I'm sure Samsung are working on it as we speak.

I am sure this has been asked plenty of times before, but this player does not support dolby vision, right? I know at the moment UHD BD discs with dolby vision don't even exist, but it may be a good idea to have a player that is future-proof, in case publishers will start releasing dolby vision discs at one point in time.

Or the opposite might be true, they don't want to pay royalties to dolby and they'll stick with HDR-10.

(This is my first post, please don't blast me if I wrote something that is not correct)

I know what you mean by that - but "future-proof" is like chasing a unicorn.

While I like to have the possibility to support the current buzzword features, in my current apartment I'm running a 5.0 setup. LFE is wasted on me since I have two decent fronts (Dali Blue 6006) and I don't really care for more low end. Getting 2 or more speakers would mean finding used Dali 2002s (for 7.x) or something that matches for ceiling mount (for DTS:X/Dolby Atmos). Unless I win the lottery soon, I don't see myself expanding beyond 5.0.

When it comes to the video side of things, I was watching The Martian and thinking, how can this be improved? I really am intrigued by the wider gamut and to some extent the higher resolution. HDR is something I'm more hesistant against.

I know my Benq W1070 isn't exactly the best projector out there but it gets the job done - it surpasses the cinema experience (here in Sweden). So 4K projection at a fair price will have to be the dealmaker for me. Until then - I too will "future-proof" by buying UHD+BD. I haven't bought any movies outside of the Criterion Collection and Disney Diamond editions since January 2015 in anticipation for this launch. So the next few weeks of reviews and first impressions will have a great impact on my collecting.

Sorry, went off on a tangent.

Default So heres a question for everyone...

Anyone hear online of anybody buying any 4K movies at the Video and Audio Center in California? I went on their facebook page and clearly, the photo showing the two gentlemen showcasing the device had several movies wrapped in plastic in his hand which leads me to believe they DID indeed sell some copies of The Martian? Curious I have not found anything online, AVS or anywhere of anyone reviewing these movies yet. Did the store actually sell any, has anyone seen or heard anything about this?

If I missed this in the thread, apologies I have not gone back yet...

That is correct, this player does not support DolbyVision.

But I also agree on what the previous poster said about chasing a unicorn.

Plus vision may not win out, also you need a vision display to get the most out of it or so the PR would have you believe

I ordered mine on the 7th as well. Hopefully I'll get a shipping notice today too. Otherwise I'll probably wish I had opted for store pickup.

I assume my shipping notice will be coming any minute now. Best Buy's site says specifically that in order to receive the player by the 10th via expedited shipping, you need to place the order before 10:30 AM CST. So anything they ship today(at least expedited) should theoretically arrive by Wednesday.
