Easy on the hyperbole there fella. But I agree in general, it's a shame that anamorphic 21:9 didn't make it into the cinema at least, it'd make viewing 2K scope movies a bit less painful.

Some kind of anamorphic implementation would have been interesting for UHD BD, but apart from the resolution gains* (which are always nice) I'd imagine a UHD BD on a 21:9 display would still look the business.

*I think it's the chaps with projectors would benefit the most, with their Cinemascope screens.

A slight caveat, for me, is that I need multi-region for BD. So I'd need to pay an extra £100 or so from somewhere like multiregionmagic. I can't live without multi-region!

(Even though UHD is apparently region-free, BD isn't!)

There's that word again, "amazing". Maybe I'm just too blasé about the wonders of anamorphic DVD almost 20 years later?

I'll just be keeping my current multiregion player. These early UHD BD decks will have enough problems as it is, no need to add multiregion shenanigans into the mix.

For LD, sure. For DVD? Not so much. Hell, Laserdisc had High Definition many years before DVHS/HD DVD/Blu-ray came along, now that was amazing.

What is the verdict for best settings so far?

JS9000 TV:
UHD on or off?

UBD-k8500:
Deep color on or off?
HDMI color format on or off?
While watching movies the video setting on the player should be set to Standard/Dynamic/Movie/Custom?

Thanks.
Can anyone answer these questions?

Just picked up my first 4K discs from Best Buy.

Important note: I was able to go online this morning and order the titles for in-store pickup. The in-store pickup window had them ready and waiting, but when I asked if they had any additional titles on display for me to consider, I was told that they were "under lock" and would not be available "until later this week."

So preorder these babies for instore pickup, folks!

Now I must go watch...

Did instore pick-up for Kingsman The Secret Service. have not received confirmation that it is ready yet. Does anyone know if the stores will have the K8500 this week, since the movies are available.

My store had the display setup beside the 3D section. They had around 6 copies of each. i picked up The Martian and Kingsman. I threw The Martian in for the opening scene and it looked pretty damn awesome on my JU7500 Sammy.

I was told by the Magnolia people here in Dallas that the players won't be available in store until mid to late March. Its an on-line perk I guess that we got ours much earlier than everyone else.

Even with Deep Color "OFF", the colors are still orangey. Contrast is too bright but blacks look amazing! I noticed at the beginning of the three discs I looked at the blue background with the MPAA rating is now purple! The 20th Century Fox logo at the beginning is orange tinted as well.
Definitely turn OFF Deep Color. Dynamic Contrast I had set to LOW. What about Color Contrast on the TV? Anyone know?
