A Knight's Tale - Better transfer with MPEG-4 AVC encoding for video and DTS-HD MA 5.1/7.1 audio (either is fine). Absolute must-have extra is the director's commentary with Brian Helgeland and Paul Bettany. Deleted scenes would be nice. Even better if the extended cut could be included with seamless scene splicing.

Films that need better Blu-Ray transfers:
The 40 Year Old Virgin (Heavy DNR & Edge Enhancement) Tremors (Heavy DNR & Edge Enhancement) Batman Begins (Rubbish Encoding, Weak black levels, DNR) The Dark Knight (Heavy DNR, Edge Enhancement & Contrast Boosting. Incorrect colour timing) Predator (2008 edition has print damage, a weak encoding & compression artifacts. The 2010 "Ultimate Hunter Edition" has too much DNR and contrast boosting) Predator 2 (DNR, Edge Enhancement & contrast boosting) Alien 3 (Old, worn transfer) Alien Resurrection (incorrect silver retention) Robocop (Old, worn transfer, DNR & weak encoding) Back To The Future Trilogy (Heavy DNR & Edge Enhancement) The Mummy (1999 Version. DNR, Edge Enhancement & scratch removal artifacts) The Mummy Returns (DNR) The Thing (1982 Version. DNR, Edge Enhancement & scratch removal artifacts) DragonHeart (DNR & Scratch removal artifacts) Star Wars Original Trilogy (Dodgy colour changes, frozen grain and lack of theatrical cuts) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (Heavy DNR) Star Trek Films: The Motion Picture, The Search For Spock, The Voyage Home, The Final Frontier, The Undiscovered Country, Generations, First Contact & Insurrection (Too much DNR. The Final Frontier has extremely heavy contrast boosting during the films climax. Lack of The Director's Cut Pf The Motion Picture, the extended editions of The Wrath Of Khan & The Undiscovered Country) Monty Python And The Life Of Brian (Frozen grain & heavy edge enhancement) Bram Stoker's Dracula (Questionable colour changes) Jurassic Park (A new 2D release using the same brand new 4K scan as the 3D edition minus the DNR and cropping that was done for the conversion process) Beauty And The Beast (A new 2D release using the same scan that was used for the 3D edition which had the colour palette fixed, the current 2D edition has botched colours) The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (Both the theatrical cut and the extended edition need a new transfer. The current transfer of the theatrical cut has too much DNR. The current transfer for the extended edition has a blanket green tint over the entire movie which messes up the films colour palette) Terminator 2: Judgement Day (The 2006 Liongate release has a rubbish encoding. The Skynet Edition has too much DNR. The 2008 Studio Canal release is the best HD version at the moment as there's no DNR, but the transfer is starting to show its age. The 2006 edition doesn't have DNR either but it has an inferior encoding to the 2008 edition. All the Blu-Ray editions use the same scan which has baked in Edge Enhancement and contrast boosting. The film needs a complete overhaul like T1) Top Gun (Too much DNR, it needs a new 2D scan. The 3D version has had awful changes done to the films colour palette) The Longest Day (Heavy DNR & Edge Enhancement) GoldenEye (DNR, Edge Enhancement & Contrast Boosting) A View To A Kill (Heavily cropped & the shaking earthquake effect which was orignally present in the film was accidently removed) The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (Heavy DNR & Edge Enhancement. Lack of theatrical cut) American Psycho (Heavy DNR & Edge Enhancement on Lionsgate edition. THe Australian Sony edition is a bit better with much less processing. The film needs a complete overhaul though) Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 05-15-2013 at 11:45 PM. |

This was just recently released in Germany. It's region free and word is that the PQ is good, but the audio is only DD 2.0 and the AR is 1.33:1. That's kind of a bummer since the U.S. DVD is 2.39:1 and DD 5.1.

I would pay more to have a complete UCE package of a film instead of having to own 2 DVDs and a BR and a Laserdisc of certain films |

1. List films you would like to see get better transfers.
Escape from New York (considering the source material, I'm not sure if a better transfer is possible) Escape from L.A. Point Break I'm sure there are more but those are the first three that come to mind. 2. List films you would like to see get an upgrade. This includes added special features, added subtitles, director's cut and etc. Same three titles listed for number two. Last edited by nolfoc; 10-30-2013 at 02:44 AM. |

Can't think of any off the top of my head 2. List films you would like to see get an upgrade. This includes added special features, added subtitles, director's cut and etc. The Dark Knight Trilogy (commentary and in-depth making of) Ain't Them Bodies Saints -- as an IFC film, I really wanted this to go to Criterion Moonrise Kingdom -- can we get some features, please?! Necro thread.
But off the top of my head: 12 Monkeys Reservoir Dogs Big Lebowski Far and Away (it was shot on 65mm, come on). Gorillas in the Mist Adromeda Strain The Thing Scarface Star Trek movies (all of the TOS and TNG films, basically). Mission Impossible (4K already sitting in a vault somewhere?) Die Hard - (we know these are 4K already) Children of Paradise (something went horribly wrong with current restoration) Terminator 2 and 3 I don't know. Really, there's so many, we could go on with 100's of titles. You could say just about every Universal catalog title needs to be redone LOL, but every studio had some problems. |
